Exactly. Its not a good way to operate moving forward but in this instance its been great, the club obviously had some faith in these kids coming through and the faith has been repaid this season. If we can keep Luai, Critta, Leniu and Burton along with who we have signed then I honestly think it could be one of the best moves the club has made. We let go of an origin half along RCG, Waqa and Dallin and we have been able to sign a couple players and promote from within to improve to put together one of the best seasons in the clubs history. If we can keep the core together which includes Yeo, Fish Nath etc along with the younger guys I mentioned than wow, it will be a risk that paid of in a spectacular way even if we dont win this week.

I have been banging on about Crichton for a few years. He will be elite now that his body is right to go.

The Ball team is stacked too. Which should give us cheap quality depth. Even Crichton only got a 3 year extension looks much better for all involved

This wont be popular but if Naden is getting an offer from the storm id let him take it and if Edwards gets a big offer this November id lowball him a little bit and if he takes it great, we got a good deal, if he leaves then Id put Laurie in his spot next year, Staines on Mansour 's wing and Burton at right centre. If they can defend together that back line has so many points in it.

No argument here, as I think that is a great idea.

Edwards re-signed earlier in the year. I can't see him going soon.

How Crichton overcame crippling pain to become a Panthers star

October 15, 2020 — 12.04am

Stephen Crichton was laying NBN cables for a living, a job that almost cost him his NRL career such was the toll on his rapidly growing body.

Even in his mid teens, Penrith could see they had something special brewing and were desperate to protect Crichton as he came through the grades. So much so that they handed him a development contract to ensure he stopped working and preserved his body for rugby league.

It was the $1000-a-week investment that paved the way for him to recently agree to a three-year, $1.5 million extension that will be announced after the season.

At the time of being called into the NRL squad in August 2018, Crichton's body was failing him. He had pain in his lower back and he couldn't run without discomfort in his knees as a result of the manual labour he was doing.

The Panthers could see that he was struggling whenever he trained with the club's lower grades after work, battling fatigue and niggling injuries throughout his body.

To correct the issue, the Panthers fast-tracked his career by handing him a development contract just so he would quit his job and stop damaging his body.

I reckon a couple after the GF. We have too many off contract end of next year. I think the club have a couple done or are close.

Well if we lose this week or next week Crichtons official announcement will help a little bit, especially if there are a few others announced with it.

Looks like they want to focus on the season then you'll get a group of players announced after the GF.

Cheers. Do you guys have access to the Sydney Morning Herald? There is a article about Jerome Liau, and how he almost became a Rabbitoh. It is hidden behind a paywall, so I can not view it. Thanks.

I read a story about this last week. Shane Richardson worked with Luai in the NZ under 20 rep side and has wanted to sign him since. When we had Maloney Richo was calling Jeromes manager and the club often to try and sign him. I dont think it was ever going to happen though, the club and the manager both said they knew he belonged here, Jerome never considered leaving(quotes from Jerome, the manger and Gus about how it was never considered). Jerome's manager sounds like a good one, in the story I read he spoke about how some kids are desperate to get into first grade at 19,20 and their managers will get them out of contracts etc but then they dont deliver immediately and by 23 are really struggling, he thinks more players should be patient like Jerome.

Yeah I like Naden, but the truth is he’s really a winger playing centre. I’m almost certain Melbourne will have him play on the wing. I think it’s likely someone else comes along that is more of a natural centre.

They still haven't confirmed next years salary cap or the ones after it. Most clubs are preparing for a 5-10% reduction.
Win a premiership and break into Origin will no doubt push prices up.
The club won't overpay nor be played by managers. Value for money will be firmly in the club's plans regarding any new purchases.
Thanks blade.

f**k me, shafting Edwards for Laurie who has one game under his belt, c'mooooon. Edwards is an integral part of our side. His stability & positioning at the back balances out some of the more erratic players within our squad. We have a great mix. The 'all attack' mentality / selection policy may look great on paper but how many times has it actually won a premiership?

If we still had Waqa and RCG on the books fully we’d be having a lot more trouble retaining all these players that we have coming off contract. It’s annoying that we had to pay some of those guys contracts to get them to go but it has worked out beautifully for us imo. Those contracts were big by all reports and our team has improved out of sight we were able to take that hit in our cap because of all the young guys who could do the job for much less money and now whatever we are paying will be finished this year or next and we will be using that cap space to keep who we want as the young guys demand more money.

I don’t disagree, we’ve dodged a bullet and could have been in real strife to keep some guys which is why I alluded to the fact by paying for Jack to go, we’ve not really learned anything. If he was in as much demand as the press would have you believe we shouldn’t have had to part with anything for him to leave.

I think we’re paying for the two at Parra for another year yet, maybe 2 in RCG case, could be wrong.

either way, I reckon we aren’t in the position we are now in if those two are still panthers so it’s worked out well. Just rather we avoided paying freight on guys to leave after the errors of the past in the regard.
