I read that the Eels have advised Nathan Brown that he is free to leave.

Now there's a hard, tough ba5tard that I'd have.

Would he want to return to Tiger town?

Just confirming what OTT state above.

However, the Tigers have introduced a development mandate at the club and are reluctant to make too many contract moves until Tim Sheens appoints a new head coach after Michael Maguire’s axing.

I don’t follow Brown’s career but he seems a player of quality and we are reluctant, not sure he would even come back, but I don’t understand this?

Triston Reilly joins from Waratahs

No offence to Tristan, but f**k, is this the best we can do?
Just gotta hope he can deliver?
Union 7’s players are a prized catch. Usually fast
For Brown - No discards Thanks
A Development mandate from sheens ..I like the sound of that.

I never really rated Brown particularly highly even when he was at his best. Ofa has just about been out best player this year, so Brown would be bench at best anyway.

Where are these juniors coming from, we aren't braining it in reggies. Yes our 17s and 19s are good but that's a long way from first grade

The funny thing about this Leilua thing is that the only people who seem to be okay with this decision (on the whole) and not up in arms are Wests Tigers fans themselves. That is a sign of a few things.

(a) We all know this season is gone and the fans just don't care that much anymore (I know Im in that basket).
(b) Leilua is just robbing a future player of experience that wants to be here.
(c) He is playing like shit lately.

Im not sad to see him go in the slightest early. If we were in contention, different story.
I agree with everything you’ve said here. The thing I don’t like is that his early release has rewarded him for tanking when he should be punished. That encourages this type of behavior from players that are a bit sooky and want out. I’d rather have seen him parked on the lounge for the rest of the year with a bucket of KFC in his lap, fattening up for the cows next year.

100% agree. We should have made an example of him, even if we lose the extra cash saved from losing him early. Stick him in reserve grade and play him in the front row for 80 mins

If Leilua was too dopey to ask the Cowboys before asking for a release then I don't see how it's our problem. It would be great if he sits out the rest of the year - no pay, no finals and no starting spot next season. Perhaps a cautionary tale to other players who try and tank their way our of a contract.

Have we paid him up to the day of release or are we still paying him to the end of the season?

Untill the end of the season… There’s no contract for cowboys to take over payments this year..it was just phone call they said yes we will take him, but now they arnt sure if they can afford him this year, and they want to wait to see if he gets injured in some game outside the cowboys coming up, and check his fitness first… fair enough

Now he’s making all sorts of “Im loyal to the WT” noises.

Admittedly, I am not 100% on how these contracts work in NRL, but I would have thought if you ask to leave (ie break contract) and the club says yes, then that's the end of payments. This is different to being "shopped around" to other clubs where the club usually has to chip in part of his contract.

He's played his best years for other clubs. If the Eels are footing 2/3rds of his salary, I'd offer him a 1 year club option on top of his current contract.

1 year would be good and to use him from the bench for 30 or 40 minutes a week, would give the tigers more than Tamou has in his time at the club. Play him as a prop, just utilise his aggressiveness and under the development mandate, he shows the way on field to the newbies.
