That’s not answering the question. Why would you extend the current deal during a pandemic? Just give them a discount for the remainder of the deal for a couple of years remaining of the deal.

You can twist it as much as you want there’s no pressure to extend the current deal during a pandemic; particularly not for a long time.
They wrote plenty of puff pieces in return.

There is actually no evidence that the broadcasters want or will pay for another Brisbane team... You and GROTD are running with this but where is the evidence of this? just some vague throwaway comment by the Nine WWOS guy? lol
They paid an extra $100m over five years for the Dolphins. There's your proof.

Huh? I am not quite sure I understand your post or how is it relevant.

Are you suggesting that because they got a discounted rate they wrote puff pieces as a thank you gesture?

Are you suggesting telstra is paying afl $50-70 mill cash now? I thought it was all marvel upgrades yesterday?

It is both.

We know the Vic Govt is paying $250m towards Marvel upgrades as well. Most cases it is a 50/50 split so no one knows.

$50-70m seems right for the internet rights. You are taking that out before we are getting to the TV rights money

Yes.

Puff pieces to V'landys for being on their side.

The sack for Greenberg and Smith for not giving in to their demands.

And the afl is including that 250 million as revenue too

so when afl red or his cronies quote the gap in revenue between afl and nrl 90 million pa of it is govt grants lmao

Afl deal 641 million pa

telstra 100 million pa (30 million cash)

tv deal 541 million including contra 30 million

afl tv deal 511 million cash (at best)

we will beat that easily

That’s not a good thing.

In any case you need to break that cycle in order for the game to achieve its true worth. The game is as important to Foxtel/News Limited as it is the other way around.

And a team In Perth vs Brisbane will break that cycle and make Rugby league finally independent from news ltd

That’s a bit of a strawman don’t you think?

I don’t think a team anywhere will break that cycle. The location won’t be really important. It will be down to how they negotiate.

Until there's other serious bidders then we don't have many options.

We have to be mindful of the fact Ch9 and News Ltd control much of the print media in this country. If we go with Ch10/Paramount then we'll lose a lot of free advertising in the print media. Look at what's happened to soccer since it parted ways with News Ltd.

its 2023, if the sport still relies on "print media" then its in trouble.
