Until there's other serious bidders then we don't have many options.

We have to be mindful of the fact Ch9 and News Ltd control much of the print media in this country. If we go with Ch10/Paramount then we'll lose a lot of free advertising in the print media. Look at what's happened to soccer since it parted ways with News Ltd.

Super Rugby has really gone backwards since it left Foxtel. It was in a perilous position before that, but it's now out of mind and sight.

I fear we need Foxtel as much as they need us.

If we were to sign exclusively with Ch9/STAN then it will hurt Foxtel, but could be just as harmful for us. STAN would need to provide a cheaper entry point than Kayo to reel in enough customers to keep NRL strong.

its 2023, if the sport still relies on "print media" then its in trouble.

There's still a lot of older consumers who rely on "old media". In 10 or 15 years it will probably be different.

It's a real pity that our media is controlled by just a few companies. Ch9 buying Fairfax and created a Ch9/News Ltd duopoly. It gives them huge control over us.

You and I still rely on the print media. We get it online instead of through a hard copy.

Stan and paramount will bid against foxsports and get them to pay market rate for once

that will result in a tv deal which beats afl

with more teams coming in the nrl there is huge growth to come

Look up strawman if you want. If nobody else other than Foxtel/Channel Nine are bidding on their current arrangement, then we’ll remain in the fumblers’ shadow.
You brought up the Strawman

the argument was about giving broadcasters teams they want and your reply was we should just negotiate better lol

I hope ‘will’ happens but it is against the history of the sport

You can lol as much as you want but I have given you multiple examples where other sports have produced an increase far greater than what we have had. So no it’s not ax simple as bending over backwards for broadcasters is it?

F*** me print media. Seriously I have relatives working in the print media industry - I can show you how much print media is dying if you want.

Who cares about print media. Relatively speaking it is dependant on how many people are bidding for the rights. That’s it.

The last two deals were almost identical

only an idiot would compare the renegotiated afl deall whilst the nrl hasn’t had a chance to do their deal

Giving a broadcaster what they want is slavish ?

now that’s a stretch

No it is the attitude that is the only thing that matters.

We are a sport that has given more to broadcasters than any other sport in this country and honest question has that helped us?

Of course. You mean the deals that were done 12 months apart.

It is not their fault that we renogiated our deal for five years during a pandemic and they didn’t. Instead of being an endless sycophant you could just say that wasn’t a good decision.

Ch10/Paramount put in strong bids for AwFuL and Cricket. Both sports bodies rejected them because they were worried about the backlash from News Ltd.

We can take a punt and sign with Ch10/Paramount or Ch9/STAN, but if it backfires then we'll be at News Ltd's mercy when the rights after that are up for grabs.

Even still the afl deal was 30 million max better than the nrl till they rengoatiated

their new deal hasn’t even started yet
