It is relevant because you and others want the ARLC to follow AwFuL's footprint.
And I'll answer your question by telling you to look at revenue from football operations to justify Townsville having an NRL team. Based on revenue from football operations, Townsville had the second largest rugby league club in the world in 2022.
That’s brilliant but that’s not answering why they don’t have an A-League or a fumbleball side. In fact that’s a complete avoidance of the question by issuing a red herring - I didn’t ask you to justify the existence of a League side in Townsville.
If Townsville was a big market then they would have an A-League or fumbleball side as that’s the logical conclusion of your own argument. Realistically (to answer your question) Canberra and Townsville have small populations and probably couldn’t sustain both a fumbleball and a league side. Canberra is also getting an A-League side which is another thing you have avoided.
In any case it’s all a ridiculous argument btw because whether or not an area has a A-League side (you and I remember the North Qld Fury failure as well) or a fumbleball side doesn’t ipso facto mean that it can’t sustain a Rugby League side; as evidenced by Canberra and Townsville who have financially sustained themselves.
Whilst there might be some crossover between supporters of different codes there is also people who will follow one sport to the exclusion of others.
