I’m actually quite surprised with the free rein Ryles has received from the media. This year has been a sugar coated shit sandwich yet everyone seems to love what he’s going. We have won 5 games FFS and so far signed a 35 year old and an untried rookie.
They used up all their powder in the off season criticising Ryles’s roster decisions (jettisoning Gutherson, RCG etc). They’ve since moved on to focusing on the Tigers/Galvin saga etc and effectively giving Ryles a free pass, writing it off as a “talented rookie coach” rebuilding a roster. It helps that in both cases he has so far been vindicated (Iongi is a contender for rookie of the year and RCG has been a non entity at a team doing worse than us)

Don’t worry, if we’re playing at a similar level at the start of next season, the media deathriders will be back in earnest

I don’t know what to think about the team named. I know that Ryles knows more about footy than I do, however, our spine is what, a total of 40 odd games between the lot of them?

6 wins from 26 games @ GIO Stadium
I’ll be there. We got this.
Our worst venue of the modern era.

Gee we have copped some thumpings down there over the years.

I wasn't alive in 1993 but gee LU would have gone berserk over a 68-0 defeat.
I was at Campbelltown watching Souths that day. The ground announcer was relentless with the updates from around the grounds. I’m pretty sure Ricky Stuart’s season ended that day as well.

We've got 8 games to go, the only difference in our current 2026 squad to now is Brown out and De Belin in. For those 8 games the coaches should pretty much treat them all like trials for 2026. We know what we're getting with De Belin, so Brown gets to fill a slot in the 17 as a result.

If we end up losing every game and running last because of it, well at least that we'll open the clubs eyes and mind and show that we have a huge a f**ken problem going forward.
That would be the fourth straight Eels coach winning the spoon. By straight I mean consecutive.

Truth.

The side picked us utterly embarrassing. MON and co should hang their heads in shame. If we get within 20 it will be a miracle.
This weeks team listing brought to you by Jim’s Mowing

To scared to say the truth. Blaming others.

The 2026 Ryles clearly hinges on Moses, Lomax, average to good players and so many rookies with potential reaching it in a f**king hurry.

Sarantinos, ONeil and Rogers say , give us time and all will be good. Unfortunately that’s been the case since 2021. We have the cap room and needs, it seems to have been left too long and cupboards bare. Nothing changes if you don’t change.

Valid points.

But is there a coach in the NRL who would have us performing better, do you think?

Perhaps Bennett, Cleary, Bellamy, or Hasler?

Maybe, maybe not.

The roster is sub-par - simple as that.

We've been paying mega dollars for a 5/8 that has done nothing for 2 years.

We have forwards on big bucks (Lane, and Matterson) who have attitude issues.

Paulo still thinks he's a halfback.

It's a f**king mess.

But one thing to consider is we've been missing our main player for 75% of the season.

Our recruitment so far for 2026 does have me concerned (although I think De Bellin, even given his age, is a great signing), though.

I respect that Eels fans are fed up, and I respect that we've had a poor season.

But Ryles showed enormous confidence in deciding to join this club, and to try to turn it around.

We have seen glimpses of very, very good football - but we are painfully inconsistent.

Anyway, this was a nothing post.

I need more than 3 hours of sleep a night.

LU wasn't alive then either 😁

Some of us old timers were around on the official Parra forums though (now extinct)

Cant remember too much outrage, we were consistently crap early 90s..
At least you had the 80s to look back on then in the early 90s and the glory days were still in the rear view mirror.

My generation only have the 2001 record breakers who shat the bed, The Jarryd Hayne masterclass of 09 that got rorted by a team over the cap & One stressful night in Townsville in 2022.
