2025: Week 1 Finals

Id rather slow a player down 5 times and have 5 missed tackles then missing 2 tackles that end in a try. Stat says different
If a missed tackle doesn't end in a try it's because your mates cleaned up your mistake. If the missed tackle leads to a try it's because they didn't. It's not like one miss is worse than the other. They are both missed tackles. The only difference is what happened after it, which is out of the control of the bloke who missed the tackle.

Have to say that was probably the best week 1 finals game I have ever seen.

seeing Ricky crying tears of celebration twice only to have it correctly taken away was fantastic.

Reece Walsh could genuinely be the greatest fullback of all time if he cuts out the moments of madness. Some of that will come with maturity, but I don’t think I’ve seen a fullback with more all-round skill since Hayne

It was probably the greatest final of this decade perhaps in the past 25 years eclipsing the 2010 Tigers v Roosters classic.

Madge has a big decision to make.

Reynolds is due back but Walsh seems to be more dangerous as the main man with Hunt & Walters playing 2nd fiddle.

Its a big call brcause bringing Reynolds back from the cold may disrupt the cohesion that the spine has now got into in past 6 weeks.

Wow, just goes to show you can't coast even if you have what you think is a handy enough lead.

Brisbane with a bit of the Queensland Origin of old never-say-die attitude to get the week off.

If Canberra were playing a better team than the Sharks next weeks (i.e. the Roosters), they'd be in a lot of strife next week. But as it looks, Week 3 will end up Canberra v Melbourne and Penrith vs Broncos. Penrith still on track for the five-peat...

Meaningless nonsense.

Crazy that the Broncos have the two halves from the 2023 grand final unavailable but potentially playing better without them.

I still think Canberra will trouble Storm if they get through next week.

It will be a challenge though mentally as much as physically next week against the Sharks to get over today.

But they are young side who are still capable.

They have a great record against the Storm at AAMI Park 5 wins from there last 7 & won last 2 x finals.

Having spent a couple of hours reflecting on the game it still wouldn't surprise me if the 2 teams that played today square off again in 3 weeks.

But Penrith are definitely in the ball park now.

Aside from the winning field goal, Hunt played the worse game I’ve seen him play in a number of years, it was like he had not idea how to organise attack. If at least 80-90% fit Reynolds goes straight in imo.

Paix was pretty poor too, which makes the decision to move Walters back to 9 if Mam is fit pretty simple - but I wouldn’t make that change unless Mam was essentially 100%

Cobbo won’t get a look in whether fit or not

100%.

Today's game looked like a Grand Final preview and both teams played their guts out and I predict they'll be there on Grand Final day, provided they will get over the hurdles you mentioned above which is very possible.

I dont think the Raiders would mind a shorter turn around and playing over 90 minutes and its likely they'll have another 6 day turnaround the following week, should they beat the Sharks. The Raiders play the style that troubles Melbourne.
