The fumbleballers will be quick to say it's because of his AFL skills developed during the time he spent at GWS.

Whatever he is doing its working. Rightful attention on his batting at times but his glovework has been special. Kept well to Neser up close too.

If Starc and Boland can bat out most of the day, then Stokes can too, but England just don't have the mentality to do it.
I'd be surprised if the game lasts much past the first session tomorrow.

A moment that has been archived for the ages:

However, Ricky Ponting made the same blunder at Edgbaston in 2005.
Punters call was probably worse as McGrath had just gone down a few minutes prior. Although Nasser is more impressive because he changed his mind at the last minute when the whole England camp was in agreement to bat first.

Another fun fact about that game - Matthew Hayden made more centuries in that match than Joe Root has made over 17 test matches in Australia.

Can't believe how badly we got beaten in 2010/11 when you see this current mob. Didn't even have a bad team.
Team looked good on paper but most of them were a few years off their prime or well past it.

Historically teams can often look a lot better or worse. For context the English team that got whitewashed here 3 years later had
Cook
Trott
Bell
KP
Root
Stokes
Prior
Broad
Anderson
Bresnan
Swann
Tremlett

with the exception of Root & Stokes who would go onto be elite, this was the bulk of the squad who came here and smoked us.

Yep, I remember Haydos' glorious 197 and 103 from that test just like yesterday.

Here are the condensed highlights for those on this forum who maybe too young to remember the Aussies at their peak:

Michael Beer bowled for us in Sydney lol
Until the day they die, Michael Beer and Bryce McGain can both be thankful to Warney for the Baggy Green cap they have in their home. Basically, both of them got rushed into the test team off the back of favourable comments Warne made about both of them in the media leading up to their respective selections in the Australian Test XI.

Beer was bog ordinary, but I'll NEVER forget him dismissing Alaistair Cook off a no-ball when Cook was on 46. Spinners should NEVER bowl front-foot no-balls. That's completely unacceptable and worthy of being dropped from the team, especially when someone like Cook piled on the pain, scoring 189:

Initially, I thought Beer was a one-test wonder, and then I remembered he played one more test on the 2012 tour of the West Indies, where he opened the bowling in BOTH innings!

Warne complimented Beer on air and Beer was picked in the next test. Absolutely mad. McGain had an alltime stinker however he was coming off a great shield season. Was worth a go.

Lyon’s legacy will be that he was the guy who ended the revolving door spinner spot after the king hung them up.

We also picked Doherty for the first 2 tests on the back of some ok performances in a odi series just before the first test. That was such a painful series apart from Siddle’s hat trick and the Hussey/Haddin partnership.

The barmy army absolutely ripping into Johnson and rubbing our nose in it will forever be the reason I have no sympathy for any English team who gets destroyed here.
