There is no point speculating or anything till there is more info... I have signed up for the newsletters though my website so at the moment am in the same boat as everyone else.

Exactly. Speculation is just that. We might as well wait until the NRL themselves release more info or a trusted contact at the AMNRL teams can shed some light on it.

Yeah

But one nice thing that has come out of all this is that it got people talking and thinking and some good ideas have been thrown around.

You know, sometimes I get the feeling that RL organisations set fans up deliberately to get them talking just so they can get different perspectives and ideas.

Well, all of this may be speculation, but this thread has certainly piqued the interest of members, with well over 100 replies, and in excess of 5 thousand viewings, making it the most accessed thread EVER in this subforum's history. I think this gives an indication of how important a professional Rugby League competition in the USA is viewed by International Rugby League fans.

I thought you said you were going to stop talking on this topic, until more substantiated information came to light? :sarcasm:

BTW, druzik, I love your work, and always enjoy reading your posts :D

Ps. How good would it be to see a Jamaican side in the US comp. I would imagine that would do WONDERS for both Jamaica and the US. Now just to find the right backers. Romeo - there must be someone with money that would find something like this appealing? Cheap way into USA Pro competition.

I have to agree with you, if a pro comp is established in the US and Jamaica gts an invite..you can be sure we will do everything possible to get a team in...it would be a first for a sports team in Jamaica, so that would make it easy for investors to take an interest..plus it would be cheap to maintain the Jamaican team ($US1=$Ja85), flight cost and hotel accomo. would be biggest challenge.

The US National Rugby League website (www.nrlus.com) has been updated, but there doesn't appear to be any new information that we don't know already. It would appear that the USNRL is an extension of the AMNRL, if not in fact the same organisation. Perhaps the AMNRL have worked out that for marketing purposes, the "National Rugby League" is a more saleable name.

Do you think it is just coincidence that there are 3 Americans (Ryan Mulligan at South Newcastle, Al Mackoul and Mike Kelly at Toukley Hawks) playing in the NSWCRL this year, or do you think that they had advance "warning" of the 2010 professional "National Rugby League", and are preparing themselves for selection for the pre-draft camp?
I do hope that if it gets up that there are at least some Americans involved, and that the competition is not packed with has been or never was Aussies, Kiwis, Poms and Frogs :(

Interesting, could very well be the case, especially since from memory they are from big city clubs that would be a fair shot at a franchise. It is a strange that players would start filtering to Australia about the same time this first appeared.

I'd imagine if this got up and running the clubs would target NRL, SL, Championship, Elite, QLD Cup, NSW Cup and Russian Championship players plus maybe some local players from throughout the world, American RU players and American Football "rejects" and ofcourse (well hopefully) the cream of the AMNRL crop. I think they should target getting atleast half of the squad american, I think that's a reasonable quota for now that could be decreased over time. That would mean finding 88 americans up to the standard though, I imagine players like Matt Peterson and Taylor Welch would be first on the hit list then work into AMNRL teams and talent in the amercan RU and American Football ranks.

I have found some interesting info.

A guy called Mark Cerceo of Philadelphia is a key mover and shaker in this. NOW he is the CEO of "Pat Croce and Co" WHICH launched 'Slam Ball' http://www.slamball.net with IMG.http://www.imgworld.com/home/default.sps Pat Crose is the commissioner of "Slam Ball". (now on CBS and already on Fox in Australia) and was the President of The Philadelphia Fylers NBA side.

Pat Crose is part of quarkermedia which was/is to produce the doco on American Rugby League. hmmm....

Do you think that the "National Rugby League" may be seen as a potential "filler" for TV? Do you think that those in charge may want to "tweek" the rules to make it more "attractive" to the action sport (ala Slam Ball) market, so that we could end up with a different game being played in the US? After all, how likely is it that a commercial venture would want to be submissive to the RLIF?
It keeps on getting more interesting.:-k

Yes.. Josh, if you remember.. That reality show was to be filmed a few seasons ago for the AMNRL by Pat Croce's company.. Maybe things have been finalized with that.

Also.. We all know Croce is a maverick.. With his martial arts background, and his penchant for "daredevil" type activities, (base-jumping, bungee jumping etc.), I think Rugby league will be right up his alley.

Remember that yes, he produced the 'Slamball' show, AND, that inventor show that featured he, George Forman, and another guy as judges.

If its true that Croce is on board, I think this NRLUS thing may be for real.

Hey.......you might just have something!

You won't here much from guy's in the AMNRL. It was discussed at our annual meeting in NYC and is not their place to discuss other than it is coming. The news would come from the States and not from the NRL in Oz.

What do you think will be the reaction of the Evil Empire  to the news of this proposed professional Rugby League? :?: Surely they are aware of it, and may be ready to strike back. My impression is that they see the US as a "sleeping giant" :sleeper:, with many potential followers to take over to the dark side. We can't allow this to happen. May the Force be with Rugby League. :f:
