Sorry, but Maloney won't cut it at the Eels.
He may hold his own, but he's not what we need.
We need a top 3 half.
We've gone with these half arsed halves for 20 years, and it's got us nowhere.
It's top shelf or nothing, and we have the moulah.

Where do we get top shelf from??
Ask the Titans how they got Idris?
Or the Knights re Bennett.
Come on 3P, you had a major bank coming on board.
Where are the 3rd party deals to get us a Thurston or a Cronk.
You know we need a half.

Suity

I don't give a f**k where or how we get one.
It's common knowledge that we haven't had a world class half since Sterlo.
It's also common knowledge that we haven't won a comp since then either.
Don't give me that bullsh*t excuse.
Top shelf halves have been on the market consistently. The Cowboys had the foresight to buy Thurston as a pup. Storm developed Kimmorley, then Orford, then Cronk. Roosters got Mitchell Pearce. Broncs bought Wallace. Stacey Jones went to England when he was still in his prime.
Stop making excuses. They're out there. Who give's a sh*t if we cut a Robson or a Mortimer mid contract. (sorry....... parra pete does.)
We are either competitive in the market, or we ain't.
If we're serious, we will be.

Suity

Fire up, Suity. I don't think you are showing enough passion.

mortz would play a great support 5/8th ala John Morris when Tim Smith was running the show.

But we don't have a half that can organize full time

I don`t think Mortimer will ever make a 'great' anything. I think he must be well and trully in the running for the biggest myth to ever play first grade for this club.

We just need to change it, ok maybe Morts is improving but Robson is starting to make me lose my marbles.

Morts would be at hooker if it were up to me and switching with Matt Keating. Personally I reckon Mitchell has shown jack sh*t this year. Casey to halfback.

I`m not impressed with Mitchell, either.

Sandow is the answer

in my best Gus Gould voice.......'no, no, no, no, no'
just don't like the guy, i think he too has regressed from his earlier days, he takes just as many poor options as Morts and Robbo, maybe more recently

oh, that, and he is a deadset grub too!

Agree. This idea that we should pay the world for that extra special State of Origin standard half-back is just a pipe-dream. There aren`t that many of them in existence. Look at how hard it`s been for NSW to find a great half-back. There`s only about three really great halves in the comp: Thurston, Prince and Cronk - with maybe Mitchell Pearce a close fourth.
Sandow is in the next level, along with a lot of others. You could win a comp with a half like Sandow or Maloney. We could. We`ve got a good pack of forwards. We could even buy a halfway decent five-eight with the spare change - unless Murray or Humble step up. I`d certainly go for someone like Sandow or Maloney. Both of them are just in another league altogether from Robson and Mortimer.

Sandow is one of those players that just have a natural attacking game, plus he also has a good kicking game. He might be a c88k on the field, but that is what you need in a half back, you want a half to be super confident who backs his ability and isn't scared to direct the forwards or older players. Plus I think he would improve out of sight we a hard arse coach.

A lot of the negative stuff around Sandow comes from he second year when he played like a busted arse.

He is best half back on the market, plus he is young, and has NRL experience.

Yep. Of everyone available, Sandow's clearly the best option. He's a risk, but less of a risk than Quade Cooper (for example).

He doesn't have as much potential as Cooper (who's potentially as good as Lockyer in his prime), but Sandow is potentially as good as Scott Prince.

But how much would it take to sign Sandow? And how much would be too much?

As he is the only real halfback option off contract and a few clubs will be likely to chase him it would be between $300,000 to $400,000. How much would be too much..... anything between $300,000 to $400,000. He is the best available but he has yet to play consistently over a full season, hasn't played any form of rep football and given the likes of Thurston and Cronk ahead of him it is unlikely to happen anytime in the near future.

$250,000 - $300,000 is what he is worth and even that is pushing it.

Potentially the best options would be Seijka, Sezer, Carlo Tuimavave or Michael Morgan...... and allow the youngsters to develop under Kearney.

Sandow is rubbish. All the skill in the world won't help a bloke with his attitude. He thinks the absolute sh*t. Big no thanks for anything more than 200 odd grand.

I agree totally.

That said, I think I'd give him $400k just for the chance to take that risk.

Also, since he's black he might avoid the inevitable 'next Sterlo' headlines (as well as the fact he has different strengths). John Simon, who did play the same style as Sterlo, has been our best halfback since the great man, and he never got saddled with being The Next Peter Sterling.

$$250 to 400k for Sandow? What are you guys smoking? Fair dinkum we are really scraping the bottom of the barrel......He is not our saviour, he may be talented but if he hasnt improved since his debut few years back he aint going to be a world beater....Save our cash for some real PROVEN talent and some young up and coming juniors from other teams..
