Trent Barret.
Speed, size and strength.

Unfortunately the brain the size of a pea and a heart not much bigger.

Had better physical attributes then Andrew Johns, but could never play any better than he did at age 19.

I haven't read all 180+ posts but surely it is somewhat unkind to list players whose career ended or was severely hampered by injury or illness such as Matt Head or Adam Ritson. Better to concentrate on the lazy or ill-disciplined type player who never reached their potential.

Not sure why it's unkind, I'd take it as a compliment if I was them.

Gorden Tallis - Another who was beginning to go up another level before injuries cut his career short. Still impressed a lot of people even in his worst shape.

Considering he captained his state and country, you wouldn't normally associate Gordie with someone who never reached their potential. But I tend to agree with you here Pete.

In the weeks prior to suffering that injury, Tallis was in the most destructive form I've ever seen in a forward. Every run he made had such power and strength. He just wanted to hurt every tackler that dared to take him on. Scary stuff. One of the better examples that springs to mind is the first Origin game of 01. He tore NSW apart.

Without question he was never that damaging again. An injury of that magnitude was obviously to much of a burden and never allowed him to reach those heights once more.

Although he has won a world cup and grand finals (albeit illegally) Sika Manu could have been so much more than he is if he hadnt been plagued by injuries. It seems that just as he is about to hit top form, he picks up some kind of horrible injury.

A couple of others who I can think of Joseph Tomane, Smith Samau, Russell Aitken and Liam Foran the brother of the Manly player

Out of curiosity did the book specify what Gus told Freddy?

Didn't specify, other than Gus told Freddy his head had got way too big, his attitude sucked and "If I see that bike again I will jam it up your arse!" (Freddy had shown up on a scooter, wearing shorts and thongs).
