Very disappointed to hear that the semi-finals and final venue are not being announced. I don't know of any major tournament that doesn't announce all venues at once, and this move seems to me like there is a major lack of confidence from the organisers.

However, the other big match of the tournament, the England v Australia pool match, will be announced which will probably give us a hint of where the final/semi finals are. Hopefully its at Wembley or Old Trafford.

Will also be interesting to see whether Ireland and France get pool matches despite the fact that it is officially hosted in England and Wales.

It's looking like it's going to be a decent tournament..

To have announcements like this 2 years out from the actual event is unprecedented in International Rugby League IMO..

League is gaining momentum in england. For the game's sake a WC win for England would be huge and give the game massive exposure. Wales showed plenty of ticker this 4 nations just gone.

I think Avignon are a 50/50 chance. Limerick are zero chance.
hope so... Australia vs Ireland in Limerick with a bugger all crowd of 100 would be a huge shame to international rugby league which shows there is no interest in RL in Ireland. Best we stick to England and Wales with France playing all matches at home.

Why do you think they would attract 100 for a World Cup match against the competition favourites when there was over 3,000 a couple of weeks ago for a meaningless friendly? I don't agree with Ireland hosting games, but this post makes no sense.

Did you not see the footage!?

There is no way in hell there are more than 300 people at that match, if you believe otherwise, you're in denial. They weren't exactly 'meaningless friendlies' either. The french managed to get over 10,000 for their match, then the irish, knowing that their bid would be judged largely on this match, didn't bother to turn out and support the match. I hope Limerick don't get a match (surely the won't), but I hope Avignon do...

It is all a marketing ploy. They will announce the Group game and Quarterfinal venues and then in maybe one month time name the Semi and Finals. Just means Rugby League gets a mention twice and not once.

I will be tuning in on Monday as I plan to be there in 2013.

see langparks post.

There is no way they got 3000 to Limerick, there is not that much support for RL in the area- 300 at most would be the best guess. Playing a World Cup match in Limerick against the best team in the world with a crowd of just over 1000 is not a good look and especially in a venue such as Thomond Park this would just make our sport a laughing stock to Irish fans and the rest of the RL world, people in Aus think that 5000 turning up to watch Wales vs Australia was bad.. this would be even worse. Don't get me wrong I would love Ireland to get behind rugby league but it is nothing but a way to keep RU players fit. If they were serious they would start getting schools and junior teams set up.

If anything, the video proves that there is a hell of a lot more than 300, the roar at half time sounds like there is a few thousand people in attendance, although it drops off in the second half when Ireland are well behind. I see no reason why they would lie, they certainly wouldn't inflate their figure by 10 times! The one crowd shot in that whole video is after full time and there are certainly more than 300 there!

you can't be serious, it just sounded like 300 people clapping and the noise of the PA system going at the same time

I see every reason why they'd lie, because there is a possible WC home match at stake.

Look, I wish it were true, but according to French journalists "300 at the most" were there, then afterwards, the Irish came out with the 3,100 figure. If they're not lying, why can't they provide the exact number? surely there are turnstiles at Thomond Park!

Also, the shot at fulltime just looked like all the family and friends had come down to the front rows to clap them off, look again, there is no-one in behind them.

Lastly; here's a crowd shot from during the match just in case you're still not convinved:

Yeah, it would. It would also be a laughing stock if only 6,000 attended the final. The point is that I'm not sure why you are deathriding something that hasn't even happened yet based on a projected attendance figure that you have made up two years in advance. Hopefully Ireland won't get a game so it won't matter anyway.

Well, I thought the WC was awarded to England and Wales anyway..

I can understand people wanting the French games going to France, but technically the WC wasn't awarded to France - and I'm one of those would dearly love to see a France vs Australia Final..

By all means make every effort to sell the sport and the Cup to Ireland, but no home matches IMO..

In that news from last month, you will find Guy Laforgue, "director" of the national team (no idea how to translate it), saying that the English have already confirmed that two games will be played in France, most probably in Avignon and Perpignan (Gilbert-Brutus)

Still, I can't figured out the stadium policy, why Gilbert Brutus and not Aimé-Giral (the union side's field), which is bigger (14,500 vs 10,500), and why Avignon stadium which is basically a piece of shit. Really, it's one of the most awful stadium we have over here.

Stadiums like Ernest-Wallon (Toulouse, 19,000) and Gilbert-brutus would have made a lot more sense.
