Do you think the reason why he holed out in the deep was because he was happy and was just trying to get as many as he could? If Lara got out for 381 it wouldn't be a choke it would have been a world record. Fair dinkum no wonder why your side sucks at cricket.

Just because someone cares doesn't mean it is a choke. If I got 500k in lotto but wanted a million is that a choke?

He was f**king 20 runs away from 400! How can you say that he hasn't blown a great opportunity to be come the first person to score 400 is beyond me. Im diminishing what he achieved at the time by taking the record I'm just saying he did miss out what was a great opportunity. Oh and 1-1 buddy and WC semi-finalists buddy;-)

:lol:Good one, typicalfan. You genius. The first paragraph reminds me of Ian Smith's commentary in the 2nd test at Hobart, and how he was getting all orgasmic over a drawn series (which would still mean that Australia retained the Trans-Tasman trophy). With that type of attitude, it will still be many years before New Zealand WINS a test series vs Australia and makes it into the top 3-4 teams. You don't become number 8 in the world out of 9 test teams (Bangladesh being last) without continuous mediocrity. Not to mention that test match crowds are literally non-existent over there, which is a shame when you have a look at highlights from matches in the '80s and even '90s held there.

And I'd take 500k any day of the week if it was offered to me. I wouldn't consider not winning the $1 million a failure at all, considering most ppl my age are struggling with budgeting, paying living expenses etc.

Hayden had to hurry to get the 400 because Steve Waugh wanted to declare..From memory he told Hayden when he got to 380 he had 10 minutes to break the record..

That was something I wrote about last year, and came under a lot of criticism from the pro-Johnsonites. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the same. Hilfenhaus and Siddle's consistency and pressure that they built up was completely negated by all the loose deliveries Johnson bowled.

It's been a happy day. Please no more mentions of that useless merkin Johnson

Makes sense, little bit disapointing if he did say that considering int he end there was the best part of a day left over int he end but in the end making sure they get the win has to come first.

It is simple cricket logic. England obviously thought to see off the consistent ones and attack our ordinary spinner and Johnson. It is tough when half your bowling attack can't bowl well consistently, sounds a bit like the Indian bowling attack. I remember Hilfy bowling tirelessly over after over with no reward, he ended up with what? 3 wickets all series? I still blame Johnson no surprise our only winning test was when he decided to turn up.

100% agreed. And I also agree with what the possible outcome could've been had the then-selectors had the balls to dump Johnson after that shocking bowling performance at Lord's. Fair dinkum, Johnson's bowling in that Lord's test, along with the Gabba test last summer, were two of the worst bowling performances I have seen by a fast bowler in my 16 or so years of watching cricket. That's why I used the expression "pin-ball machine" bowling, as the ball was literally going everywhere. When English batsmen are laughing at you as they are about to face your bowling, you know you're in trouble.

Almost winning something is a HUGE achievement for Kiwis, look how long it took them to win a second rugby WC and that is their national sport. They'll be talking about their RL WC win for the next hundred years.

Haha right back at ya bud because if for some reason you want to bring up choking in thsoe specific games/tourny yours was much worse though since you were three consective WC champions going in and didn't make it out of the quarter finals and then were crusing in the final innings before collapsing to defeat:lol:. So no idea why you would bring that up.

And you drew with a team that gets to pull on probably a similar or less amount of players then your major state sides like QLD, NSW or VIC.. And the 8th ranked team int he world at that, lucky those Indians are over there to get your confidence back up.

1-1 and a WC semi final. Getting excited over winning nothing

However, regarding WCs, the biggest choke for NZ was in 1992. Home ground advantage throughout the tournament, winning their first 7 games, and then lost back-to-back games against Pakistan to get bundled out. The look on the NZ players' faces after Pakistan won that semi-final was priceless.
