The problem with this is...
Well first of all i think every other club has the same goal and plan.Good juniors and a winning culture. This is just common sense. Its not realy a secret plan and we wont be the first club to try and do this.
All very true. What clubs want to achieve is no dark art; I'm sure Anderson and even Hagan wanted to do the same thing. I'm sure Jason Taylor learnt a lot from Brian Smith about the same process.
But that's where knowing what to do and knowing how to do it isn't the same thing.
How to structure this kind of system is a closely guarded secret in coaching circles, and coaches only know what they've learnt - either through working in systems that do it right, or learning from their own trial and error.
Sometimes other clubs just get better juniors come thru.
If you're just waiting for juniors to 'come through' then you're getting left behind. There's no law that says our junior teams have to be full of local boys; we're allowed to get our juniors from anywhere. So is every other club.
That's why Melbourne has such a great junior system.
Thats sport.Im sure if SBW and Thurston stayed at the dogs they have a title in the last 5 year. But it didnt happen so now they wait for the next star to come thru.
Right, and you know neither of those guys grew up in Lakemba. One is a Queenslander and the other one isn't even from Australia.
Melbourne where lucky-They cheated to system to retain players. But they also get first pick of the best juniors in QLD.
Why would they have first pick? Every club has scouts in Queensland.
Its a lot harder for a sydney team to win the comp-FACT.
True, and that's only because our local area is all of Sydney (not Parramatta), and we have to share it with eight other clubs. So any advantage we could have by signing players who live within driving distance from Parramatta Stadium, we lose because those players live within driving distance of every club in Sydney.
And i also think its ahrder for western sydney team to recruit and hold onto players.Would you rather live in penrith or on the northern beaches .
Who says you have to live where you play? Last time I lived in Sydney I lived in Concord and worked in Randwick. The time before that I lived in Balmain and Coogee and worked everywhere.
This ain't the 1800s.
Beeing offered 300k and wake up on the beach or 350k to be out west.Id say its a 10-15% advantage for teams like the roosters and manly for simple reasons " lifestyle"
You reckon Des and Crusher are sharing a nice flat in Punchbowl?
