I'd forgotten they even played for the Broncos at all!

WHy are Broncos fans getting all cut up about being called out for salary cap problems? They've been rorting the cap for years!

Fmd those pricks have been gone for years

Don't forget Wendell went to rugby and Alf pissed off to Warrington
just pointing out we have lost plenty over the years and remained relatively quiet in the recruitment department. Now we are offloading/losing even more and finally recruiting wisely and with strong players and people cry foul. Well they can cry me a river if we sign Smith to go with recruiting extremely well this year.

where all these players in the first grade squad .If not they make no difference to the cap

Most were in the top 25 squad at Broncs so yes, each contributes a minimum of $70k to the top cap.

For the more challenged among us these are some salary cap figures they may wish to consider:

Wallace - $350k.

Prince - $200k (Titans payed the other $200k).

Corey Norman - $250k.

Even if all the others were on base $70k salaries, we've easily freed up in excess of $1m with these offloads.

You don't just offload 5 players on minimum wage and replace them with someone on 300k, it doesn't work like that

I think your also forgetting that there has been upgrades to existing players that remain in the club.

So what you are saying if all otheres were on minimum wage you have reed up $1.5 million under the cap?

Now you have to fill all 13 spots with replacements of at least $70K which is $910000 which leaves $590K to pay any of those 13 more than minimum wage.

So how much is Barba, Kennedy and anyone else the broncos have signed on?

I don't really care just was bored and thought I would run through the maths of it.

I don't disagree, but how many of those upgrades would be of significant size? Other clubs have to upgrade as well, and other clubs do it while being very active in the market place. We have upgraded while losing big name players and being very quiet in the market till now. It's not rocket science, take a look at the last 5 years, you can't tell me the Broncos upgrading and signing of players even gets close to what they have seen walk out the door value wise even without taking into account the salary cap changes and rises.

 I'm sure opposition coaches won't be sleeping at all this off season

Have you worked out how the Bulldogs become a title contender without Barba to carry their attack? Only times the dogs have looked any good in the last two years were with Barba on the field. When you work it out let Hasler know ok pumpkin.

They weren't all on minimum wage, blokes like Anderson and Tasi were signed from other clubs so they would not have been on basic contracts.

The point I was making simply is that it is an undeniable truth that the Broncos have freed up a huge amount of salary cap space this year alone, let alone previous recent years when we've lost Petero, Lockyer, Gagai and so on.

To think we've got the roster we have and that we're breaching the salary cap is frankly ludicrous.

It's a known fact that over half of this forum is in the know with each clubs financial situation, particularly when signing a high calibre player becomes a possibility.. I always have a chuckle at that, they make the judgement based on what has happened to the club in question in the past 12 months, completely ignoring what may have happened in the years before that

What you don't seem to understand, Jason, is if you cut 12 players and free up $1mil cap space to sign Cam Smith.....you still need another $880k minimum to sign another 11 players to replace the 12 you cut.

So if a club has been say 1/2 mil under the cap for a year, surely that does not mean they can spend the full cap plus that 1/2 mil next year. That is what I don't understand by Broncos fans saying they were under the cap last year or the year before....so now they are entitled to spend more next year.
