The more I think about ant sort of tactics, I reckon two good running dummy halves would be a start, then add a little power and lots of speed.

New Zealand Warriors to unleash UK star Sam Tomkins at Auckland Nines

EXCITEMENT machine Sam Tomkins will make his debut with new club the Warriors at next month's Auckland Nines.

Coach Matt Elliott confirmed the star recruit will be a key member in the Warriors' bid to claim the inaugural tournament, which runs February 15 and 16 at Eden Park.

"Sam will be playing Nines," Elliott told reporters in New Zealand.

"We made a commitment as an organisation to do really well in the Nines. We also need to look at who's best suited for it and Sam certainly falls into that category."

The decision means the flying fullback misses the chance to turn out for the Warriors against his former club Wigan in Hamilton on February 12.

Wigan is travelling to the southern hemisphere for the World Club Challenge against the Roosters on February 22, and had arranged the Warriors match as a warm-up.

Due to the closeness of the match with the Nines tournament, Elliott is fielding completely different teams.

Tomkins, 24, scored 144 tries in 151 games for Wigan and a match against his old teammates would have made for an intriguing Warriors debut.

"I can see the interest in that, but our real key is to do well in the NRL season and we'd like to have a dip at the Nines as well," Elliott said.

"Guys playing in the Nines certainly won't be playing in the Wigan trial because it's only a few days before."

Good to hear. Really looking forward to Tomkins in this format. He's incredibly deceptive and finds holes in defensive lines with ease (bar against Australia ;p)

Unless you have Segeyaro. That guy is going to carve this comp up (if he has recovered from his World Cup injury of course.)

The Warriors official twitter account is promising to release their 9's team early if they get a lot of re-tweets.

I'm interested to see the make up of that squad.

Is there anyway to sign up to Foxtel for a short stint? I am not really interested in signing up to Foxtel full time but certainly interested in watching the nines for a couple days

Can sign up for 1 month but will still have to pay connection fee ($150).

I was intending not to be on a contract but when they waived first month costs of $82 for HD sports package (& gave me premium package for that month), I signed up for 6.

I wonder if it will be shown on the NRL Live App?

I note that flights to Auckland from Melbourne for the weekend are now around the $300 range each way, which is about what it costs to fly to Queenstown during the ski season. So its clearly drawing a lot of people over the ditch.

So, Freddie is playing.

Look, I'm against it for the sake of it, but I have faith that the new admin in the game would have to have been sure he was up for it before allowing it.

So long as its not a joke, I'm fine with it.

So long as he's fit and serious, he can do it on his ear.

if freddy manages to leave someone who could very well be half his age clasping at air after his old right foot step that said player will never hear the end of it.

Good thing JWH is on his side because going out of your way to put a shot on a 43 year old sounds like something that would be right up his alley.
