However as a member of the PLC, the AGM for my club is for financial members of my club only, with apologies to Sterlo, Joey and anyone else who isnt allowed in the door but probably should be.
Surely Andrew Johns shouldn't qualify for a freebie membership and/or voting rights at Parra...?

Well Jodeci was saying on the facebook page he knew the real story about the FC and that it was no longer in administration, it had been wound up. Now as a member I would have expected a letter to that affect asking me for the required stake I have to put into the club should that happen. But no such letter.
Interesting, I'll have to track down a facebook page...

Of course Stagger has assured us that Jodeci is his own man, so I don't expect the information to be in any way inaccurate, or agenda driven at all.

Same, it was $100 then and you about $80 worth of vouchers. That was near 22 years ago now.
Ditto.

These passionate life members of the PDLC that Stagger is talking about might have thought to do the same all those years ago - to help support the club that actually supported their club (for which they'd been given a freebie membership).

Just back on Ben Smith's disqualification... I just came across this article, and despite the potential for controversy this writer doesn't even make it sound like there could be any doubts about the course of action taken?

Parramatta veteran Ben Smith ruled out of club elections

Date May 2, 2015
Daniel Lane

Former Parramatta player Ben Smith was ruled ineligible to run in the upcoming club elections because he was considered a paid employee of the organisation after working in an ambassadorial role at home games.

Smith was unavailable for comment on Saturday but Parramatta's head of communications Josh Drayton confirmed the veteran of 152 first grade games was advised he couldn't oppose the current board headed by Steve Sharp.

The decision means Smith, former Parramatta boss Denis Fitzgerald and suspended board member Lawrence Shepherd can't contest the elections.

"Under the NSW Registered Club's Act you can't run in an election if you receive paid work [from the club]," Drayton said of Smith's situation.

Smith's supporters said he'd received only a small amount of money for mixing with club sponsors in corporate boxes at home games this year and should be classed as a contractor, not an employee. They said he wasn't paid superannuation, holiday pay or other benefits associated with being employed by an organisation.

"[The Act] doesn't define how much it is or whether it is part-time or casual work," Drayton said. "The problem is he invoiced us on the 20th April. [It wasn't much money] not at all. This comes down to the conflict of interest in relation to influencing members, which is a huge section of the Registered Clubs Act ... if you're being paid by the entity you cannot influence members."

Drayton said even if Smith paid the money back he would still be not allowed to stand. "If he had declared and then nominated or resigned and nominated I think he may have been OK," he said. "He did not declare it when nominating and because he only resigned from the position [on Friday] he's unable to run."

Another former Eel, Mark Riddell, who is running on the Parramatta Professionals ticket was disappointed to hear his former teammate was ruled ineligible. "I'm disappointed to hear Ben is unable to run," he said.

Fitzgerald was banned from running because it was alleged he's in breach of the leagues club's constitution, which states an employee who's services were terminated by the club for misconduct can't stand.

Fitzgerald argued he was paid a redundancy when he left the club in 2009 and his deed of release did not mention he was guilty of misconduct. "I haven't given up the possibility of going to court," Fitzgerald said on Saturday.

Drayton confirmed Ray Price was prevented from standing for election three weeks ago because while he was made an honorary member in 2011 he was not "financial", a prerequisite under the Registered Club's Act for a member to stand.

Of course those with a leg in Fitzy's or Spagnolo's camps will likely carry on like it was the biggest injustice in the world etc etc as part of the politicking....

Well, that goes to show how much horseshit this Mr Drayton bloke is prepared to speak. To assert that you cannot influence members simply because you are being paid by them is a gross misunderstanding of the Act. Directors get paid by members, directors (and entities related to them) can contract with the club (with full disclosure). I'd love to see him cite which section of the Act he thinks he's talking about. Mr Drayton's own quoted statements contradict each other (i.e. 'if you're being paid by the entity you can't influence its members' and then 'if he had declared and nominated....I think he might have been OK.'

I still call BS on BS's case. I support the current Board, but this is poor form.

Irrespective of the way in which the club has communicated the BS issue, apparently Benny worked as a game day host for home games since round 1 and only recently invoiced for that work.

The issue is he didn't advise the returning officer he was doing paid work for the club until after his nomination.

Simple.

Why didn't this person seek leagues club membership when the leagues club first became involved in the NRL licence?

Simple , just pay the money and you can become a member of both. I know a few life members of the PDRL and they have paid their fees to be Leagues club perpetual members many years ago.. Get your cash out and become financial.

Yep, you simply have got to dot your i's and cross your t's if you're seeking to enter representative governance.

I agree if he'd declared the "employment" at the right time, and in the right order within the nomination process, everything would have panned out ok. But he didn't...

Hardly poor form, or an outrage.

even just for the ease of walking in the door of the club without having to sign in.

Must be embarrassing for them to line up with all the other non-members to sign in on game day.

Is the restriction one of our "constitution" or the "registed clubs act"?
If it was the former I would think Stagger will be bringing up a new motion at the AGM next year.

Just noting that I received a flyer in the post from ParraFirst and their seven candidates today.

Yet to directly receive any contact or information from any other cadndiates or tickets... and voting opens in two days?

Such an awful waste of nominating for the other 20, if they don't actively bother to try and attract votes before people turn up to the club.

You don't need to attract votes when you are a Fitzy/3P/Spagnolo puppet, their legal/illegal voting block will get you in.

On a side note, now that Spags and Fitzy have joined forces to create this new 2P/Parramatta Professionals ticket, they are pretty much guaranteed to make a huge impact on the election, probably take 6 out of 7 spots without even electioneering.
