Yes, we should be moving mountains to get him back. He said in the press he wants to be close to family (Taree) - their sole reason for coming back is medical reasons and being close to family - so honestly we have the inside running given he knows the place, would still have mates here etc.

Honestly, it's kinda a big f**kup if we're not right in the mix for him. All signs point to an easy negotiation. I am bracing for maximum disappointment.

I don't think he's coming back because NZ has shit hospitals and doctors. For sure I'm reading between the lines, but I think you can say with some amount of confidence that first and foremost, they want his sick kid to be close to family. Realistically going to see a specialist in Sydney once and a while isn't a huge issue from Newie either. As Knight Tales said it's really none of our business, but if I were a betting man I would say this is primarily about family support - going "home".

I would say his manager is smart enough to tell him not to say much about preferences of where he wants to be in the press.

Anyway it feels icky talking about leveraging someones sick kid to get them to sign a ccontract, even indirectly. I hope he comes back to Newie. We need him, and it makes sense for him too by the sounds.

Missed a whole year with the ACL so hopefully got a good rest. He will be here as a leader/mentor just as much as a player. Hopefully we get it to work!

What do we realistically think we’d have to pay to get him here? Around $600K-$700k for a couple of years is where I think we’ll land on this one. He’s a rep quality player and has matured a lot since he was last here and is exactly the sort of guy we need in this team to lead the forward pack and help bring through the young guys.

Money isn’t going to be his biggest motivator given he wants to be close to family but we can’t lowball him either. It would need to be a competitive offer.
