    I remeber harrigon saying at the start of the year that the reffing would be the same in the regular season as it would be in the grand final. Given the watmough play the ball debacle either bill is full of shit or the refs have no balls. Possible 12 point turn around there - massive call.

    the fact is the ref should have called held long before he did. The player had his momentum halted for at least 2-3 seconds and Hayne had his hand in the air for the same period seeimingly waiting for him to pass the ball.     LOL Thorn should have been called held 5 seconds before he passed it, the ref had his hand in the air for 3 seconds but didn't do anything. It was also fairly clear that the ball hit the ground before the line and was then held up.

    Rule Change

    Crap. responsibility should be on the ball carrier not to pass it if they are going to get smashed. Under that rule, on the last tackle I could run the ball to the line, delibarately pass into the defenders legs who is attempting to tackle me, and get 6 more tackles.

    I haven't seen the Smith one but if it was anything like Carneys then it is also an absolute farce. The rule states that a player must intentionally make a play at the ball to be considered to have "played at the ball". I have no idea how you could conclusively state that Todd Carney played...

    The solution is a simple one. Video refs should only be aloud to ajudicate on the grounding of the ball. Nothing else. Had this been in place on the weekend, everything would have been fine for both games.
