That’s absurd, sorry. They obviously had an issue with the other incidents, hence he only got 1 year extensions. They were managing their risk. Are you seriously trying to suggest the club had no issue with the illegal sex filming of women?! Come on, dude. That’s just plain ridiculous.

I’ve seen countless posts on social media about the raiders poor culture. But if they were a sydney team it would get even more notice.

I’m still stunned at how many people think this is simply about an Instagram post. May is being judged on his last two years, not a single post. All these things add up, at a certain point it becomes impossible to ignore someone’s constant stuff ups.

Just read up on it. It was an internal NRL appeals decision (because of the CBA), not a legal one. The NRL panel ruled because Carney wasn’t allowed to plead his case in front of the sharks board, he was denied a fair process. Carney eventually sued for the value of his contract, and settled for...

That’s a terrible deal for the club. We lose a player for 18 weeks and he has to stay in our top 30. Much better just to sack him. It’s effectively the same thing and we can replace him in the top 30.

Does unfair dismissal apply to contractors? They’re not always covered by all labour laws.

RA had a massive long term deal in place, we have a small one year deal. Our liability here is very small if we have to settle.

I don’t think the social media person needs to be sacked, but they should be more careful with their interactions.

Fwiw - Peter knows people at the club, and he works with Troy Dodds who is married to the chairman’s daughter.

This is such a poor argument. Every day people face the consequences of their own actions, and often those consequences are imposed by less than perfect people. But, no, I’ve never filmed a woman against her wishes and then gone on to dismiss it as no big deal. May has made his bed, and even...

The damages would be minor anyway, he’s not on a big or long contract. The question for the club might be is if it does more damage by keeping him around. If he wasn’t such good friends with the Cleary’s I’m confident he would’ve been long gone, but he might just survive to do something...

May has the right to post his feelings on Instagram, the club and the NRL have the right to respond. Contracts contain behaviour clauses, this isn’t new ground.

Tyrone May’s behaviour has driven it. People are sick of NRL players disrespecting women, society is sick of disrespect against women, they’re just not as equally outraged about people doing drugs.

You can when the social media post is linked to a last conviction. I find it so bizarre how many people are simply looking at the Instagram post in isolation.

How’s that relevant to the Tyrone May situation? That’s what I’m asking.

The two issues are directly linked, and besides past behaviour is often considered when there’s new misbehaviour. If someone continues to stuff up, you can’t judge all those stuff ups in isolation.

Absolutely not. It’s the context that matters. If he’d posted about the court case and said it was an important life lesson, one which he’s learned from, that’d be fine. But the picture and the words combined suggest a lack of remorse. That’s the problem.

The NRL contracts contain pretty broad clauses around misconduct, and I dare say when they re-signed him after the video incident they would’ve made it clear any further missteps and he’d be in serious trouble.
