Point I was making is filming a woman without consent is far worse than distributing it. The video got out because of him, even if he wasn’t convicted of distribution.

No one is suggesting violence against women doesn’t get much worse than what Tyrone May has done, yours is a total strawman argument. This is a forum to discuss the Penrith Panthers, that’s why the focus is on May. This isn’t hard to grasp.

Filming a person in a sexual act without their consent is a serious crime, we don’t need to examine the magistrates motives to know that. He does something similar again and he will be going to jail.

I thought that comment was odd, but it didn’t show a dislike. Just ignorance. Point still stands though, you can’t compare this to the $600 fine in Queensland. The circumstances of the two charges are quite different.

Yes, but Franklin was talking about the second magistrate, not the one who stood aside. Ie. He was saying that the magistrate that imposed a harsh sentence did so because May is an NRL player.

The argument about him gong to jail is kinda splitting hairs anyway. It was a very serious conviction, 300 hours of community service is not to be sneezed at. He was also ordered to undergo psychological intervention.

Hmm, it’s serious, but I wouldn’t call it sexual assault. But I think it’s definitely a sex crime.

Tyrone May was convicted of filming a woman without her consent. That’s the key to why it was a serious issue. He didn’t just distribute a video that was filmed consensually.

I don’t see how you can make that inference at all. You know nothing about this particular magistrate. You just speculating wildly. The magistrate wouldn’t have needed the first magistrate standing aside to know he was an NRL player anyway, it was discussed at trial. Also as for your...

The offence is quite new, there’s not a heap of precedent involved. But given he was a first time offender you’d think it was unlikely, but 300 hours of community service is still quite a punishment. Takes a long time to work that off.

That happened in Queensland, under a different piece of legislation. You can’t draw much from it at all unless you’ve closely compared the legislation from each state.

If the club don’t sack him, they’re going to have to go into massive spin mode. They’ve issued the show cause, which is basically saying we believe you should be sacked, tell us why you shouldn’t.

The point is, compared to normal when most fans will stick up for a player, in this situation lots of fans are voicing their preference for him to go. This is unusual in itself.

He could’ve done it after he sobered up, that’s no excuse. And this isn’t about the media, it’s about showing you understood that the message could’ve been seen in the wrong way. You’re right that it is easy to be wise after the event, and Tyrone May has managed to fail that basic standard.

If May was smart, he would’ve come out and apologised for the post. He didn’t even have to concede it was about a lack of remorse. He could’ve simply said “I see now how the post could’ve been seen that way, but it wasn’t my intention and I’m sorry if it caused any harm to my victim” But he...

This isn’t the first incident since he was given a second chance. He lied to the NRL and got a further two game suspension when he was still serving his suspension for his filming conviction. He’s been given a genuine second chance. He’s a screw up.

I’ve seen a lot of Panthers fans on social media that are fed up with May. They defended the club against the other silly allegations after the grand final, but a lot of people want May gone. It can hardly be that surprising.

Absolutely, but you said they didn’t have any issue. Of course they did. Sometimes people get so caught up in holding their position in an argument that they just end up sprouting absolute nonsense. That’s what you just did. You can argue you don’t think he should be sacked without resorting...

You’re right, it was. But May had a lot of people in his corner that were prepared to give him a second chance. That second chance has now been burnt.
