RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

Anyone who still supports the QRL has to be kidding themselves. Just the sort of recidivists who should be run out of the game entirely.

Headbutting is fair play: judiciary clear Hayne

Perhaps the reason Qld fans don't care is that they actually want him to play, so that NSW fans can't use his absence as an excuse for why they will lose Origin 2.

Headbutting is fair play: judiciary clear Hayne

Yeah, nah. The AFL actually took their current tribunal system straight from the NRL. Their MRP is just as inconsistent, possibly more so. And they have history in not rubbing out marquee players when they're obviously guilty of biffing someone, e.g. Barry Hall just before the grand final...

Headbutting is fair play: judiciary clear Hayne

To be fair, I was watching Underbelly 3 the other week and one bloke headbutted another bloke. So clearly he used the Underbelly defence. I expect Friend, Carney, Wicks and Houston can use the Underbelly defence to get off their drugs charges too.

What a terrible turd of an article.

Jake Friend gets bond in drug case

Who's afraid of the AFL, asks Titans boss Michael Searle

I wouldn't trust an accountant as far as I could kick him, much less these posts. Wishful thinking.

Mundine calls for league's 'slave labour' to strike

Mundine has been hit in the head a fair few times by now, to be fair. I've always liked him, though. Doesn't take crap from anyone, always sticks up for himself, doesn't care who he offends. A very Sydney attitude, actually - and I mean that in a good way. I remember standing in a pub during...

    2010 Crowd Watch

Why are Queensland's crowds down, anyway? Brisbane TV ratings for NRL are down 12 per cent as well. It can't just be because the Broncos are doing relatively poorly. The Tits are fourth, for heaven's sake.

for the good of the game.

Ooh I know, get the Lebanon government to buy them out. Might as well go whole hog, make the conspiracy theories come true. :sarcasm:

    2010 Crowd Watch

I was talking about regional averages, Timmah, not individual clubs. Qld-based team 2010 crowd average: 19,441 from 33 games Sydney-based team 2010 crowd average: 17,043 from 56 games

    NRL v AFL Business Side

Be fair though aza, the Storm are starting 15 years behind.

    NRL v AFL Business Side

Well said. The chest-beating from both sides gets very tiresome very quickly.

New HQ fits in with fresh start for code

Hopefully the NSWRL and CRL offices are just closets where the official blazers are kept for special occasions, like the funerals of the corrupt old codgers who brought down rugby league for decades.

Sydney is not bringing RL down. Brisbane is dragging it up.

The AFL want to own QLD and NSW according to fumbleball great

Breakeven figures on crowds are highly reliant on stadium deals. I think the AFL has a nice little deal with Blacktown, so 22k wouldn't be necessary. In any case, the AFL are dipping into huge cash reserves to prop them up so it hardly matter for the first 10-20 years.

The AFL want to own QLD and NSW according to fumbleball great

A bit unfair, PR. If you'd said 17k it would have been more accurate. The simple fact is that RL just doesn't have the coin at the moment. There's nothing they can do in the short term before the next rights deal, unless they sell some of their soul back to News.

    2010 Crowd Watch

I have been curious about something to do with NRL attendances during Origin. I did the sums on the 2009 season. 141 games outside Origin time for 2,364,334 at an average of 16,678. 51 games during Origin time for 770,256 at an average of 15,103. Difference per game is 1575. Multiply that by...

Rugby 7s, pre-season comp and future NRL revenue

Why do so many of these idea threads involve extending the season by a month or more? There should be a ban on such threads because they're no chance of ever happening in reality. RL needs to stick to its knitting at the moment. That means club footy and Origin. Everything else should take a...
