"What it is from the AFL is a statement, that we want to own Queensland and we want to own NSW and we are going to do whatever we can to own those places and I think it's another great statement from the AFL"

Words quoted from fumbleball great James Turd on tonight's On The Couch fumbleball show.

Tallis actually made some sense tonight

"why would a player want to go to the Gold Coast or GWS and play for $400K when they both have million dollar players who have never played the game before?"

Too true, normally the buffoon just dribbles sh*t all night, but that point was quite alright and also when he called himself 8 head (because its a double forehead).

one thing I do know is if you do the same thing the same way, you'll end up with the same result. RL needs to get its 5h1t together and decide if it is happy being a small sport in two states with crowds of 12K or if it wants to be the countries number one footy code.

People have to accept they are a rival product. Of course thats what they are out to do.

League need to be a bit more proactive. But its always the same response from David Gallop.

"Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"

Sounds eerily like the ARU's proclamation around the 2003 RUWC that they were going to be number one in QLD, NSW and the ACT in a few years... Considering how that turned out for them you'd think that our friendly bogans down south would think twice before making statements like that.

Sometimes I just have to shake my head...

Pretty funny that we are soon to be bombarded with propaganda and the 2 peoples faces that are going to be used are rugby league players. Every afl story for the next 3 years will have rugby league in it.

Haha, this'll backfire big time and turn even more people against their game.

Seen how their ratings in NSW and QLD have dropped since cutie signed?

Problem with this is that they have to do these deals 18 months before the players take to the field.

It's been about a year since cutie's deal was announced and I would say the general interest is pretty much dead now.

eh, wrong thread. Close enough to being on topic.

Its marketing, plain and simple. They seem to be convincing their own that signing two League players will the key to dominance. All well and good. But its not their own they have to convince, is it.

Bringing back a "home grown" GWS boy Folau, who happens to play for QLD, is hardly going to appeal to anyone. They truly have no understanding that NSW & QLD are not the same as Victoria.

I can't wait for GWS and GC to start. Might fre up some action amongst our "leaders".

A bit unfair, PR. If you'd said 17k it would have been more accurate.

The simple fact is that RL just doesn't have the coin at the moment. There's nothing they can do in the short term before the next rights deal, unless they sell some of their soul back to News.

interesting fact is the swans chairman a few years back said they needed crowd averages of 22k to break even. And the new crowd are aiming for 17k average. How long can they run at a loss for

Breakeven figures on crowds are highly reliant on stadium deals. I think the AFL has a nice little deal with Blacktown, so 22k wouldn't be necessary. In any case, the AFL are dipping into huge cash reserves to prop them up so it hardly matter for the first 10-20 years.

They can spend all the money they want on marketing and promotion but at the end of the day the product is still a fumble fest and dog ugly to watch, especially as a tv sport.

The product is sh*te and will never generate the passion that league does in NSW & QLD.

Don't know why everone is so worried.
