    The TV rights thread

Actually, Nine doesn't own those assets, Packer does, and Packer sold out of Nine years ago.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

The clubs organised the game in the first place, you nong! Fair dinkum, next we'll be hearing the clubs caused the earthquake in Haiti.

SBW in negotiations with the dogs

Is that really such a sacrifice for you, though?

Vic rural 1.4M, SA rural 0.4M, WA rural 0.6M and Tasmania 0.5M. So let's do the sums. We'll call NT a draw. Sydney 4.2M, Brisbane 1.9M, NSW rural 2.3M, ACT 0.3M and Queensland rural 2.3M = 11M. Melbourne 3.8M, Perth 1.5M, Adelaide 1.1M, Vic rural 1.4M, SA rural 0.4M, WA rural 0.6M and...

    The TV rights thread

Ah yes, but there's also Vic rural, SA rural, WA rural and Tasmania as well. It's about even when you get down to it.

    The TV rights thread

One thing bugs me about that PDF that was posted on page 2. If the overall revenue for commercial TV networks dropped by 4.4% in 2009, where is this extra money for increased footy TV rights going to come from?

    The TV rights thread

Actually, Sydney (4.2M), Melbourne (3.8M), Brisbane (1.9M), Perth (1.5M) and Adelaide (1.1M) adds up to 12.5 million. NSW rural (2.3M), ACT (0.3M) and Queensland rural (2.3M) only adds up to 4.9M. League can't claim the other rural areas.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

In other words, the ARL decided nothing, and put out a meaningless press release. Bring on the draft constitution.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

This is true. One of two things needs to happen to expedite the process. A, the clubs release the draft constitution, or B, the NSWRL pushes its majority vote through in the ARL board. B should not happen before A, and should be avoided if possible. Bottom line, the clubs definitely need to...

Hindmarsh to take fight to AFL

Big whoops, so now there's 50 minus one Telly reporters who will.

Gloves off in the playground battleground

Marketing league to a niche is exactly what the AFL wants. The niche that it appeals to most is blokey blokes, or so the cliche goes. Yes I know, probably unsupported by research, but it's the perception. You can see in the media (e.g. Harold Mitchell on Offsiders last weekend) that the AFL's...

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

If you think Ribot is in any way independent then you're deluded. He's a mercenary. He's an attack dog. He is just the sort of person who should not be involved in the new commission. I don't know how many times I'm going to have to say this, but anyone who talks about ARL or News or the clubs...

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

Oh right, just because he's joined the QRL he's turned into a paragon of virtue? Pull the other one, it's got bells on.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

Or maybe it's not ironic, because whatever cause Ribot is behind is the one that sane people should be opposing.

Quote of the Year from Paul Osborne

See, now this is what I was talking about. One day you have Paul Kent with Another AFL gunslinger who is firing blanks : And the next day you have Kevin Sheedy chases NRL membership. I guess Paul Kent will now be handing in his resignation due to the Telly not supporting his rant with even...

Hindmarsh to take fight to AFL

It suits the Telly now to fly the rugby league flag. When the next league scandal comes up, though, you can bet they'll stick the knife in good and proper like they always do.

Hindmarsh to take fight to AFL

It's a bit rich of Kent to criticise Sheedy's media-based approach, because the Telly is the major culprit in giving him oxygen. And despite this article you can bet the Telly will keep on writing Sheedy and GWS stories.

    Folau wants AFL to thrive

I just saw the clip on Ten... geez he doesn't sound like the sharpest tool in the shed.
