NRL and AFL go head to head in Sydney's west on Saturday night

    Fixed. :sarcasm:

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

In the interests of getting something done, I think the workable plan is to let the clubs write a first draft, then bring in the RLs to debate bits they disagree with. Writing a first draft by committee would be glacially slow.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

I agree with that to the extent that the RLs shouldn't sign anything before the constitution is made public and gone over with a fine-toothed comb. But there would be no harm to agreeing in principle, subject to scrutiny of the constitution.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

Actually, the clubs consulted the NSWRL. It was probably a mistake to bring them in before the QRL, admittedly. What's done is done now, and the QRL were going to stonewall as soon as they were brought into the process anyway.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

The QRL position is not a compromise at all. They want veto power over every single commissioner. That is ridiculous. A situation where three competing factions all have a veto is practically unworkable. Now, you can say that the original club proposal to have 100% of the votes for everything...

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

Okay bartman, so you're on board with the QRL wanting veto power over every commissioner, as per their letter. Do you understand how unworkable that is? It would make the commission like the UN Security Council, where everyone has veto power and nothing serious ever gets done. We'd be sitting...

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

Mortimer was telling the QRL to get off their arses and stop obstructing the IC. As an aside, he attacked the NSWRL. How exactly does that support your position of letting the ARL appoint half the commissioners? Mortimer is saying the ARL is not fit to run the game any more.

Roy is a Fairfax man, and has thrown his lot in with Ribot purely to oppose News. Predictable as bogans on Bondi beach.

    Great idea for the NRL..

The problem with this is that there's no incentive to buy the package because it's not as if Origin or finals tickets are alll that hard to come by, especially those played at Homebush. Origin at Homebush gets 75k-80k with thousands of seat unfilled. Very few semi finals at Homebush are anything...

    Great idea for the NRL..

I think a better idea would be combining this idea with club memberships. e.g. a X-game club membership plus an Origin and the GF for slightly more than the cost of X club games.

That may not always be true. But yes, you got me. :D

    Anti-syphoning laws

Being off FTA doesn't hurt the EPL in Britain. Come to think of it, isn't Super League in Britain also exclusive to Sky? The situation in Australia is different though, granted. The big danger in all of this is soccer, imo. It could very well be that when the A-League finally makes it to FTA...

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

You mean that golden era when the Raiders developed Mal Meninga and Gary Belcher through Souths Logan? There's as much proof of what I was saying than all that News-controls-the-IC conspiracy theory stuff that ECT and others are peddling. In other words, none, but it all depends on how you read...

NRL and AFL go head to head in Sydney's west on Saturday night

To be fair, the Swans have said they're going to put out a full team and try to win this year. They have treated the comp like a redheaded stepchild in previous years though.

I'm sure if there was more money in the game, that would happen. There's just not enough funds flowing through rugby league at the moment, as I'm sure you don't need to be told.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the NSWRL only gets as much money as the ARL board allocates, so that it's effectively the ARL allocating this money to Queensland. Sounds to me like it's part of the grubby deal that the NSWRL made to get majority 6-4 votes on the ARL board. Also, if all of the NSW...

Supporters Split on Control of Commission

I would like to see a better-structured survey question.

RL independence day arrives - NRL Independent Commission announced for November 1

Don't be fooled that the NSWRL's position is held for reasons of efficiency and good administration. No, they're ticked off that the likes of the Raiders and Storm support Queensland grassroots footy, which strengthens the Queensland origin side and Queensland footy in general. Their agenda is...
