    Pacific Championships 2024

Honestly, as good as Tonga and Samoa are, the NRL know that NZ is the best chance of competing with Australia consistently, long term. I'd predict a change to the Origin rules soon to allow Origin eligible NZ players to be able to choose SOO and NZ / England. If for no other reason than to...

A Pacifika NRL club is a worse idea than PNG

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

If there isn't a top line high paying Union comp in NZ, the talent will just start flowing even more so to the NRL, not just to the two NZ NRL teams but the 18 Australian ones just a short flight from home. Union won't be able to compete for talent in that situation

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

I mean, if the Warriors were even moderately successful and consistent you'd see them pushing the case already. It's great that the game is growing hugely in popularity but we need either the Warriors, Kiwis or NZ2 to dominate and you'll see it go to a whole other level. NZers aren't going...

2024 TV and Streaming Ratings Discussion

Yeah... Those Tongan fans are most likely Aussie so I wouldn't cheer too hard. Good for them, they finally have a world class team that can represent their culture on the international stage. Let's not pretend though that if England tour, some of those same fans are cheering on the Kangaroos.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Gabba has a limited shelf life due to its footprint. I sincerely hope that's the option taken now that QSAC is off the table because it leaves the fumblers homeless for not much upside when they move back in. Any Queensland Govt would understand that Suncorp drives events and revenue like no...

Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

So you're telling me that Sualii has never played a pro game of Union, steps out onto a field and is not only Australia's best player, but is better than all the English too? Sad considering he's a talented but nowhere near topline NRL player

For their biggest game of the year as a one-off? No doubt

    2024 Crowd Watch

Tonga Samoa games are too big for Commbank, Tonga just about filled it on their own yesterday, add in the equally passionate Samoan fans and you are pushing 40k

    England v Samoa 2024 series

It's part of playing away. It ads to the mystique and drama of touring England, they are harder to beat over there. Similar to India doctoring their pitches to make it almost impossible for visiting cricket teams to win there.

    Pacific Championships 2024

How much would you expect NZ v PNG to pull in Sydney? Not much As far as Tonga and Samoa goes, it is what it is. The crowds are way bigger in Auckland, Brisbane and Sydney then they'll ever be in Tonga or Samoa. Would you like the game to turn that sort of atmosphere down yesterday and a bunch...

2024 TV and Streaming Ratings Discussion

Four nations, three matches each and a final. Aus NZ Samoa Tonga PNG Fiji One goes to England each year, four play in the Pacific Cup and the other two play a three test series, the winner of which gets to play the fourth placed Cup team in a Promotion/Relegation match. Sorry Cooks but...

Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

I'd love to check the ratings from his Suburban RL team v his new global team

Has to be Suncorp, Allianz or Eden Park. Tonga brings about 20-25k Samoa probably brings the same or maybe a bit less

Matty Rogers, he's that bloke from Australian Survivor Seasons 3 and 5. What a legend

    Pacific Championships 2024

If they use the Aus Govt funding to establish the tournament as a permanent fixture and it becomes profitable (which attendances and ratings suggest it is on the right path) they would absolutely be keen.

Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

I guess the problem for Union is that it's not going to turn the Wallabies declining ratings or attendances around, nor will it do that for the Waratahs, so although articles, promo pics etc is fantastic, it won't move the needle on the things that improve their financial situation.

    2025 Ashes Tour

Surely Kangaroos v France can sell-out Catalans home ground of around 15k. The French were pulling 10k v Wales there a decade ago

    Pacific Championships 2024

Ok so bring back the 4 Nations in non-world cup years rotating it between NH and SH. Tricky thing is 4 is not enough anymore because you want to allow Samoa and Tonga in, plus you want to encourage the development of PNG, Fiji and bring France into the fold. So, the IRL, RFL and NRL need to get...
