    WA BEARS

Eventually reserves probably need to be based in Perth whether it be NSW Cup, QLD Cup or NRL reserve grade. Although Storm & Cowboys make do but Perth to Sydney is more of a logistical challenge.

    WA BEARS

That would make sense, having all 4 covering U16 to U19 feeding in to Jersey Flegg and/or a Perth based NRL under 20s if/when that returns. WA sides will probably be cannon fodder for a while but get the ball rolling straight away. With a local NRL team I’d imagine more Union juniors might be...

    WA BEARS

Do the Bears plan to rejoin Flegg? Should also be aiming for at least one Perth based side in the NSW or QLD junior comps by 2027. QRL U16s is 7 weeks & U18s is 11 weeks, plus finals. NSWRL U17s & U19s are 9 weeks each plus finals. A couple ‘West Coast Cubs’ teams in either system should be...

Nrl plans for a 20 team comp

SA have paid up for Origin previously so you’d think there should be some interest in other NRL events in years they can’t get Origin. A Double header at Adelaide Oval in particular should be somewhat appealing given its success in Perth.

Nrl plans for a 20 team comp

Personally I’d like to see a regular season game in larger potential expansion markets like Christchurch, Adelaide, Wellington, Sunshine Coast & Fiji every year if possible. Until they get their own team of course and assuming they’re willing to pitch in. Not to mention regional cities for...

Nrl plans for a 20 team comp

It’d be interesting to see what a double header at Adelaide Oval could do if the NRL could get 2 clubs interested in hosting like they have in Perth. Would need SA to come to the party though.

Nrl plans for a 20 team comp

There was a link there involving Rockhampton Brothers at least. Brothers Leagues club became ‘CQ Bid Leagues Club’ for a time, right next to where the stadium was proposed to be built if they got a spot.

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

Who goes through an off season and thinks “you know what, I could go another 5 weeks of this”? Ensuring some resting & squad rotation would be a better idea than cutting 1/4 of the season and all the implications that would come with it. Reducing/stagnating the value of the TV deal, reducing...

    2024 Crowd Watch

That would be prefect for the next Brisbane/SEQ team if and when that happens, 9-10 games there with derbies at Suncorp. Roar & Reds would want a central venue though so I’d say that’s more likely. In time though I do believe there is room for both, especially if an Ipswich NRL team happens in...

    2024 Crowd Watch

Is Roosters/Manly game getting close to a sell out or are they just playing around with what bays are on sale?

    2024 Crowd Watch

Which is all well and good for fans in those particular circumstances. What % of potential attendants does the ‘work until after 5pm and have young kids’ excuse cover? Even in those particular circumstances a lot of people can find work arounds if they wanted to.

    2024 Crowd Watch

That prelim was a Friday as well, how many people need a day off to attend a game at 8pm? Sharks whinging in the media shows they’d rather get their excuses in early than actually put in effort to drawing a crowd. Plenty of fans will eat that shit up as some form of solidarity with the club...

    2024 Crowd Watch

You’d love to see it but it’ll never happen unfortunately. Move it to a neutral Suncorp would be a fair compromise….

    2024 Crowd Watch

A Sharks Vs Cowboys prelim at the old SFS in 2016 got 37k. They can show up when they want to, a prelim is a bigger game sure but it shouldn’t account for more than double what they’re “expecting” at Allianz for a week 2 game. Looks to me like instead of trying to engage their fan base to get a...

    2024 Crowd Watch

It would be the year to try it if they’re going to. AAMI is probably the safe bet though and fair chance their deal there might lock them in to playing all finals there.

Cheers, didn’t look that far in to it but that explains it.

    2024 Crowd Watch

For reference, Sharks played 3 finals games at Allianz Vs Cowboys in the 2010’s. 2017 - Week 1 - 16,115 2016 - Prelim - 36,717 2013 - Week 1 - 32,747 Very mixed results, 2013 more than double 2017 for the same week. Surely they can get 20k for their only home final this year.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Surely Sharks can manage 20k for a home final at Allianz, even against Cowboys. Now that Storm have made a prelim any chance they might try Marvel?

    2024 Crowd Watch

Cold and wet day in Melbourne, crowd should be well over 20k but may be a bit disappointing. Week 2 final in Melbourne got 19.5k last year, so I guess 20k+ for a week 1 final with another to come is an improvement.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

From what I understand Hawaii has closed their main stadium to spectators but the plan is to build a new 25k stadium capable of hosting football and rugby by 2028. When that is built it might be worth a look for NRL clubs as well, no professional sports teams so won’t exactly be overflowing with...
