The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Some room to move closer to the road there, assuming the road won’t be moved or built over. Plus there are more compact 30k stadiums, AAMI Park for example. In saying that even if it could just be squeezed on to the site I imagine there would access/egress issues that would prevent it. I assume...

    2024 Crowd Watch

True sleeping giant, when was the last time (if ever) a Sydney club had 3 consecutive 30k+ crowds? Slightly off-topic but when the Bulldogs’ Liverpool 40k capacity stadium idea was doing the rounds most recently many people said that was too big, now we’re seeing it might be about right.

    2024 Crowd Watch

I doubt you’d get both 30k & 50k rectangular stadiums in Melbourne. Best bet would probably be AAMI upgraded to ~50k with curtains on the top tiers for club mode. Then maybe a ‘boutique’ 15-20k stadium for some A-League games as well.

Should be the first NSW club in line for stadium upgrades after Penrith is done.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Broncos need 36,616 tonight (by my count) to get the 40k average. Regardless it’s been a huge season from their fans but it would be a nice touch to see them beat it.

Brisbane3 - What is needed to make it a successful bid?

That’s the same $40m that’s already been committed to upgrading North Ipswich Reserve as of early this year. Media has just regurgitated the story and put the Jets NRL bid’s name on it. Still a step in the right direction for Ipswich, an NRL team will need a lot more than 12k but you’d assume...

    2024 Crowd Watch

If the round record is beaten it will be done without the 2 highest drawing teams of the year playing at home. Also looking likely it could be 7 games with 20k+ crowds for the round which I’d imagine has to be a record as well.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Sharks will only have 1 home finals game regardless unless they sneak in to 2nd. If it’s week 2 or a prelim it will be at Allianz. They won’t miss the top 4 now but only the top 2 get 2 home finals. Roosters coming 2nd would be the best case for week 1. Would be 30k+ at Allianz, a sellout at...

    2024 Crowd Watch

Cowboys finished with a regular season average of 19,281. All 12 home games played in Townsville. Eels finished with a regular season average of 18,192. Taking out the Darwin game and they finish with the an average of 18,837 at Commbank.

    18th club, whose next?

AFL is taking over South Island NZ I’ve heard.

    18th club, whose next?

Yehp. That logic won’t ever end either. If they get their way and they rush a team in Ipswich the very next month they’ll be saying “the AFL is trying to take over the Sunshine Coast, we need a team there”. Same formula for Logan/CQ/Cairns.

    18th club, whose next?

I’d be very surprised if the Broncos and/or Titans don’t already do similar things in the area throughout the year. Not like Brisbane Lions are going to start playing games in Ipswich or Toowoomba. Western Corridor is the perfect option to have up the sleeve for team 21 or a replacement if any...

    Pacific Championships 2024

Yeh I’ve been tuned out, forgot about that. Be good if they could play both but won’t happen.

    Pacific Championships 2024

Wouldn’t say Fiji are that far off if they can get heritage buy in. PNG likewise but probably not as strong “on paper”. Fiji have a Jersey Flegg team playing a full season against NRL club under 21s, give that a few years and should start to see even better results. Likewise the inevitable...

    Pacific Championships 2024

Good to see a promotion/relegation game, although that doesn’t explain what happens when Samoa comes back in 2025. Maybe planning 4 teams in the Cup which would be better.

    Entire Wests Tigers Board Sacked

Balmain stand alone in the NRL ain’t happening. Would Wests go back to Magpies? I doubt they have to, if they have the choice I tend to doubt they would, it’s been 25 years now.

    WA BEARS

Jesus, how delusional are Balmain? There is no stand alone Balmain Tigers in the NRL if they pull out of the merger. I’m sure if it came to the crunch Wests Tigers would be able to continue with the Tigers name as well, given they’ve been using it for the last 25 years. Happy to be corrected.

That would be a round record by my count.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Well not really. It just shows that spreading reserve players from 4.5 NRL clubs over 13 QCup teams (not including Hunters & Clydesdales) means those teams won’t be as strong as spreading the other 12.5 NRL clubs’ reserve players over 13 NSW Cup teams.
