    18th club, whose next?

Article is like the last 50 about a Western Corridor team. AFL will take over Ipswich and Toowoomba without playing any games west of Woolloongabba because NRL doesn’t have any clubs playing west of Milton. Also any “windfall” should be going exclusively towards the running of QRL comps, not...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

As per my post above for most of this. Hopefully there is still a place for State Leagues, not everywhere is big enough to have an NRL team so semi-professional RL shouldn’t start and end with NRL clubs. Queensland Cup has a good mix of City/Regional, while most of the population is in SEQ you...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Jersey Flegg is basically already the NRL under 21s, just without the 4 Queensland teams and with Fiji. Likewise NSW Cup is reserve grade for those same 13 NRL clubs. Balance is heavily leaning that way already. It will be a shame for Queensland Cup though when it happens, I think it’s...

    18th club, whose next?

They’ve been in line for Olympics funding for a few years.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

That would explain the renders that had the stand half covering the athletics track. Hopefully they can keep some or all of that temp seating around for NRL games.

    2024 Crowd Watch

6th game this year to draw over 20k at AAMI, 2nd to draw 25k+. Getting the highest crowd of the year for this one seems totally unexpected. GA sold out last night and all GA members with games remaining on their pass were prompted to upgrade to reserved seating which definitely would have helped.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Thoughts on Melbourne tracking? North & South GA sold out. Edit: I planned to use the last game on my 4 game GA membership tomorrow, since GA is sold out Storm sent me a message promoting me to change to a reserved seat and pay the difference to avoid missing out. I imagine quite a few people...

    2024 Crowd Watch

Now need 36,616 for the 40k average. Doable.. but Thursday night, might depend on wins this week and next. It will be their second biggest all-time average regardless.

Brisbane3 - What is needed to make it a successful bid?

Easts might have to do a Bears and relocate to Sunshine Coast if they don’t get Brisbane 3. 3 teams in Brisbane is heaps, even if one is based out of Ipswich.

Brisbane3 - What is needed to make it a successful bid?

They stopped playing there after one year, if they start again once the new stadium is built then maybe. Of course they’ll have some fans up there as they’re the closest team. FWIW though I didn’t see much Dolphins gear when I was up there last month. Edit: They did play a trial there this year...

Brisbane3 - What is needed to make it a successful bid?

Pretty much, not sure what their plans are for the West other than to use it as a buzzword for “the fight against AFL”. I’m leaning towards leaving Broncos & Dolphins as the city/Suncorp teams and having an Ipswich based side in 10+ years once the region has filled out more. Play 10 games in a...

Brisbane3 - What is needed to make it a successful bid?

Jets partnering with Bombers last time and now Newtown sorta says to me one or both parties aren’t interested. Shane Richardson in an interview a year or more ago was spruiking all the benefits of the Western corridor, at the time he was leading the Tigers/Firehawks. I guess Easts’ plan is to...

    2024 Crowd Watch

Round 26 is looking like a strong one. - Cowboys selling well. - Bulldogs selling great. - Panthers should be a dependable 20k give or take. - Eels V Dragons should still be decent. - Dolphins V Broncos 50k give or take. - Sharks sell out. - Knights Sunday afternoon game should be a good crowd...

    Cowgirls to Cairns?

Yeh obviously doesn’t need to be a Cowboys home game, Rabbitohs were the most recent club with a deal at Cairns. If they can get it to 20k again with some corporate facilities in that new stand I wouldn’t rule out Cowboys taking a home game there either really, obviously depends on the deal they...

    Cowgirls to Cairns?

Barlow Park is set to get a new 5k grand stand for the Olympics, then they’ll have 15k in temp seating to bring it up to 20k. How hard would it be to keep that temp seating handy for NRL games I wonder.
