    1.25 billion

4 afl games live into nsw and qld compared to 1 nrl. Just a matter of time til AFL is the no1 game everywhere i think.

    The TV rights thread

Possibly, but even then, that means 5 year rights are worth about $650mil just to break even. The best we can hope for is $700mil. Thats still a 50% increase.

    The TV rights thread

Doesn't change the fact that an NRL game has 20 mins of ads. Where i work at CCA we judge a minute of ads to 1mil audience to be worth around $70k. It doesn't matter to us whether the audience is in Perth or Sydney. A Powerade sale is worth the same. People on here are saying Origin is worth...

    The TV rights thread

This is what everyone here seems to overlook. On the last deal we sold each game for approx 500k on average, while the AFL sold theirs for approx $1mil. So NRL being profitable while AFL isn't, is hardly an indication of equal or greater value. These are very rough figures, but on average...

    The TV rights thread

Th trouble is we are selling 16 hrs of programming a week to their 27. SOO is big buts its only 6 hrs a year, With simliar ratings we should expect to get 16/27ths the money add in origin etc and about 2/3rds would be about right. We got just over half last time, so 2/3rd what the AFL get...

AFL in $45 million money grab

the AFL has $200million to spend in Western Sydney, a fair chunk of that money will go to people in WS who work at the club, work at the games, work in marketing etc. Thats jpbs and money for the people of WS ,that money can be earned and spent on NRL memberships etc. The GWS players will live...

AFL in $45 million money grab

This thread just just shows the problem that we have in the NRL. Always playing the victim. Think about it from a business sense. Here is the AFL starting a new business with an annual revenue of $25-$30mililon with $200million to back it up, of course the Government is going back it...

    The TV rights thread

The last one saw a 60% increase but that was based on there being more games shown, a friday night double header, monday night games, 6 week scheduling, extra rounds and a sunday night GF. This time nothing is really changing. Other than the fact thr AFL got alot more last time there's no...

    The TV rights thread

Theres never been a TV rights deal in all of sports that was double the previous one, a $billion just isnt going to happen. The AFL is adding an extra game and 2 new teams and only expecting a 25% increase.

Greg Inglis to play for Essendon?

the NFL has different contracts players arent always guaranteed to get money if they get injured they dont get paid and an untried player like Inglis would be on a contract where he can get cut at anytime, with no pay. So while there is potentially alot of money if he does well if he fails he...

    any publicity is good publicity

If Folau was playing id say alot would watch to have a look at him, but since qld seems to have had a cry and dropped him i dont think many will.

    The Hit Of The Millenium

whats the difference? one guy can see it coming and the other has to go back for the ball not knowing whats on the other end. Are you saying a torso to torso hit hurts more than a hip to head ? Most league players dont have the courage to raise their arms above their head and exposing...

    Folau has joined AFL

These figures always get talked up, never down. When Chris Judd moved it was suppposedly 7.5 $million over 4 years but it turned out to be about 800K a year. Its not a big story if its not a huge amount. The truth is he's on about $750k a year plus bonuses based on memberships, crowds...

    $1 Billion

This actually happened in the German soccer league, not a TV station but a company that bought rights and onsold them went under and the government had to bail the league out. Having said that both codes are very solid raters which is why they are sought after. Alot of shows are an unknown...

    $1 Billion

The one thing the AFL has over NRL is the fact that with all the pregame and post game hoohah an AFL game goes for 3 hrs compared to 2 for an NRL game. Thats an extra hour of programming to play ads. The only only offiical ratings i could find are pretty damming for NRL showing AFL had 65mil...
