I wouldn't be crowing if I were a tricolour - both teams played hopelessly tonight - Souths from minutes 1-50, Roosters for the rest. A generally poor quality game but I don't think we should expect too much in humid, early season conditions.

Rooster fans would do well to remember their side lost the second half 16-10, and Rabbits fans would do well to remember their team simply didn't show up in the first 50.

I really couldn't care less....we beat our main rivals ... what else matters? I am loving this right now.

Why?? Do we lose our 2 points because of it??

No, but I bet Freddy isn't please with that 16 point haul Souths managed in the final 30... I know if I were a Roosters fan I wouldn't be either. Irrespective of the game being out of reach letting in three tries is dumb football.

That's Football? Get real mate, it was a dirty cheap shot and if justice prevails he'll either be cited or injured himself. Wing was tackled and the dirty thug came in late as third man and went straight for his back. Surely not even you can be that hopelessly biased you can't see the cheap shot being taken?

Sounds like the Cronulla bloke a couple of seasons back on here. After Cronulla beat Saints or Newcastle (can't recall who) he said it was the sweetest feeling - and he didn't care if they didn't win again that year.

Cronulla lost all 10 of their remaining premiership matches if memory serves me correctly.

The Roosters looked electric in the first 40 or 50 but they were a shambles by the end of the match.

no call for what fa'alongo did last season..that was 10 times worse.

Maybe not mate but at least Fa'alogo copped a punishment for what happened. Brown at worst will walk away with an injury when he should be facing 2-4 weeks suspension.

Geez Timmah get the anti Rooster glasses off. I coule replay a hundred of those tackles that will occur this weekend when a third man come in for a hit. Unlucky for Wingy it went wrong

Let's remember he didn't break any rules with that tackle. And sure there was intent, but as if he would of meant to dislocate his shoulder. It wasn't premeditated either, this guy hadn't played too many games for Roosters before so I doubt he holds any grudges over Wing, especially since he's taken his spot at hooker now Wing has left.

fingers crossed Brown gets cited for it even if he's injured he should still get suspended. The teams meet again in round 25 and I hope Wing gets some pay back.

Bailey on Johns. Exact same tackle. Nothing came of it. Player not held 3rd man came in and unfortunatly there was an injury. You don't like players getting injured in tackles then give up on league and take a keen interest in lawn bowls.

Of course a certain bloke known as Reni Maitua never made such a tackle on Thurston last year while two of his team mates had him well and truly held.

Nothing should be made out of Round 1, however fans should be allowed to celebrate and banter. There is no policing that.

Good win Roosters and bad luck Bunnies!

Souths flogged as Wing hurt

March 14, 2008
SOUTH Sydney coach Jason Taylor slammed the "cheap shot" which wiped out prodigal son Craig Wing in the 34-20 opening round loss to arch-rivals Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium.
Wing's comeback to the red and green lasted all of eight minutes before he fell victim to a shoulder charge from Roosters hooker Riley Brown, who ironically replaced Wing in the Roosters No.9 jumper this season.
What was to have been a glorious homecoming ended in tears for Wing, a dislocated shoulder likely to sideline him for 6-8 weeks and leaving Taylor scathing in his criticism of what he perceived was a pre-meditated attack.
"They deliberately held him up so the other player could come in and hit him with his shoulder in his back," Taylor said.
"If you look at it closely you can actually see his eyes light up saying to the other bloke 'I've got him, I'm holding him up, get him'.
"There's a lot been talked about cleaning up the game ... he got held up so someone else could smash him."
"It was a cheap shot.
"I'd imagine that would be something that they train for and they did it well."
Roosters coach Brad Fittler rejected the claim saying "that's his opinion and he's entitled to it, but I didn't think it was a cheap shot".
Skipper Craig Fitzgibbon said Brown was well within his rights to attack Wing, even though it had appeared his momentum had already been stopped by Braith Anasta and Anthony Tupou.
"It was a good hard hit and there was intention in it, he saw Wingy's back open so he probably tried to put a shot on him and he did and it worked," Fitzgibbon said.
"Fortunately for us it took Craig out of the game because he's one of their better players and he would have been a handful tonight."
The incident took away from what was a slick Roosters performance, which looked like being a runaway win at 34-4 before the Rabbitohs scored three late tries to add some respectability to the scoreboard.
"Given the start we had last year and the way we finished, we built momentum, so just actually getting out and winning was really sweet," Fittler said.
"It was bit of a blessing in disguise, the last 20 minutes, keeps us from inflating and keeps us on the job."
Tupou was outstanding with two tries and one try assist, the Roosters ball play belonging more to round 21 than the opening night.
Fears the game could explode in the opening exchanges were subdued by Fittler's decision to hold back star signing Willie Mason on the interchange bench, and it looked like he could have been left ruing the call when Souths opened with impressive back to back sets of six.
It was almost a surprise when winger Amos Roberts leapt from nowhere and shuffled the ball out for Setaimata Sa to score his first after nine minutes, but it proved only a tasty entree for what was to follow with Tupou scoring twice in the space of six minutes off beautifully worked set plays.
It didn't get much better after the break either, South Sydney's night summed up when full-back Fetuli Talanoa and winger Nathan Merritt were left staring at each other as Sa swooped on a Mitchell Pearce bomb for his second and a 30-point lead.
"At no stage did we lose that game because Craig Wing wasn't there, let's be clear about that," Taylor said.
"The Roosters were too good for us tonight."

there was no reason for Brown to come in, the tackle was almost complete.

Did the referee call held? No. Brown is allowed to come in. It happens in every game and unfortunatly this one resulted in an injury.

Wing was already on the ground when Brown came in and what Brown did is dangerous, I think we've just seen the new Grapple.

It. Was. A. Cheap. Shot.

He took an easy shot at a player he wanted out of the game. And got served at the end as a result.

Cmon mate ... Easts are better than that sort of sh*t mate. I blame it on PHAC totally and utterly ... i truly felt sorry for the souths players tonight ... they truly didnt need that crap in the papers during the week ... it obvious he hasnt got a clue about REAL tribalism though hey :) AFL has nothing ... so keep that crap back in Perth ... pretty sure your team would appreciate it .... DILLWEED !! Surprising you didnt learn from the Dogs game last year ... pffft amateur.
