Political correctness to the extreme imo. imo I do not find it offensive at all, just me though.

I think you and kiki are just reading way too much into this. Believe me if it was offensive to any Aboriginal we would've heard about it by now. It would be the same as someone playing in the NBA being called the White Michael Jordan. Racism, by definition, are derogatory comments used to oppress, belittle and offend a minority race of people by the domininant, power-wielding majority. Calling Chris Sandow the Aborginal Alfie is fine because, a) it isn't offending, belittling, or oppressing him, b) his ethinicity is obvious to everyone with eyes, amd c) he's being celebrated.

By the way, the fact they're not calling him the next Allan Langer but the Aboriginal Allan Langer is because they're saying he's on the same level as him, and not the fact that he's someone with the potential to become someone like him. Anyone that calls him that is giving him a massive compliment.

i think it's coz we are both arts students (i did cultural studies as a major too), so we spent all those years at uni analysing stuff like this. and in the uni world that statement is most definitely laden with implied racism.

anyways it doesnt matter, just an observation thats all.

well it's not a racist statement ... but I reckon it's offensive cause it hints at institutionalised racism.

I don't give a sh*t about political correctness but this isn't about political correctness ... if anything this is the kinda thing people say all the time. there's no pressure not to say it but it offends me heaps more than most things people call 'politically incorrect'.

Well just reverse the situation and imagine if the white guy was being called the black so and so. It's considered more racist in the uni world because a lot of uni people are more likely to think that if someones a minority in any which way they're more likely to be offended by everyday things, and as such tend to walk on eggshells a lot more often around people who aren't straight and white.

No one at all is saying that he's not as good as a white player, that's the sort of stuff people imagine as soon as someone points out someones race.

But as you said, doesn't matter at all.

I studied accounting at uni and all the academics or full time students are very black and white as well. They often have no concept of the real world.

 Settle, was not a dig at anyone here. It was in reference to Kiki (probably should have quoted her) saying that in the uni world the statement was definately racist. I then said some in my profession from the uni world see things very black and white.

Kiki, & Sass...

If I was talking about someone to another person, & they didn't know who I was talking about, & I said " The black guy. ", would you say that is institutionalized racism ?
