He's always getting across to make a cover tackle or hold up a player until the forwards arrive.

He's not great by any standards but to say he's a bad defender, when you look at all the aspects of defence, is laughable.

Thurston's a good enough defender for a bloke less than 85kg. Also good enough defender for the best playmaker in the game.

He misses a few but on top of that some of his big defensive plays are game-changing, as you point out.
