Voltron, In round 11 Souths lost the penalty count 11-3. They lost the game by two points. Maguire never used it as an excuse and neither did the team. It's poor to make excuses, Souths have lost more penalty counts than won this year but they still kept winning. The score was 16-0 in the second half. Manly had their chances and were continually held up or pushed out by some great defense. You can't take that away from them.
that is not my point
just pointing out that in the second half that it was a 4:3 penalty count is meaningless
the numbers are meaningless unless you see how they come in the context of the game.
and the fact that they are held out can be incorporated into what i said
which is because of the flurry of penalties early in the game against one team
means that the penalised team is much less effective when it gets down to the other end because theyre too tired from all the tackling.
just saying that the make up of penalties in a game goes a long way to determining it
some coaches will fess up that their team was ill disciplined
but when penalties are blown for innocuous things and only against one team
then one expects the coach to say something, because to not say anything is even worse
meh im not a manly supporter but i just wanted to point out that an even penalty count at the end of the game doesnt necessarily mean anything
and it annoys me when people just look at the overall count and think it was fair because of it
