This year's clash and last year's were fairly close.

Souths only lost by 10 points but put in a great effort.

The depth will never be there if the area of the country represented is lessened.

Yeah but it's a bit of a catch 22.

We need to have better junior leagues and more participation interstate to justify having an NRL team there, but if we had an NRL team there that should help improve the participation rates for the area.....

In which Ricky Stuart said was Easts worst game in two years, so the Bunnies fans can't take too much heart out of yet another loss.

make 6 Sydney teams merge into 3

admit the GC, CC and Wellington

play true home and away = 22 rounds

season shortened

the CEO that actually has the balls to do this will be historically the greatest when we are all old and grey

Oink !

This MUST be a joke, right?

Look at the Wests Tigers crowds... They have lost half the fans of both balmain and Wests Magpies because people want to follow a traditional club. They are not going to support merged teams that have no roots in community. If they did they would support, they wiould support basketball or some other new game.

What else are you suggesting... Parra and Penrith merge?? Easts and Souths?? Crounlla and Saints?? Canterbury and ....? It'll never work.

Actually there was a CEO who had the "balls" to do all that you suggested. His name was John Ribot and look where he ended up... A game that has just about been ripped apart for the sake of TV rights. Yes, lets go through that again....

18 teams, the current 15 plus the 3 that want in.

ok you and pantherjim just sit tight in Sydney with your multitude of teams, some of which have no hope of moving out of the cellar in the near future and prohibit the game from going forward

or as you say

admit 3 more teams, all of which will go straight past said above teams with no hope of moving out of the cellar ..... further stretching the playing talent which isn't large enough to make 15 quality teams ..... but lets stretch it to 18 shall we - yeah great idea

and John Ribot ended up a multi millionaire and highly successful businessman .... not that I am pro Ribot but thats a stupid statement to say look where he ended up

Option 2 then since you can't see sense

admit the 3 teams you speak of, abolish the salary cap temporarily, let teams fold and we'll probly still get down to 14 teams, whereas my previous suggestion would have kept all alive and took the comp down to 12

9 teams in Sydney is just bad business sense

we need a CEO with balls to fix it

Oink !

And As I've said, you're obviously not a supporter of one of those 6 Sydney teams are you? Otherwise you wouldn't be making that suggestion yourself. You've obviously no idea how we'd feel - (And I'm talking the bulk of Rugby League support in this country, all supporter bases of the six teams combined, I might add!) - If our clubs were to merge into three, and furthermore couldn't give a damn could you? Many of these are FOUNDATION CLUBS - Tradition, pride, honour, history! and you're willing to throw all that away and take a gamble on the slight off-chance that League could be better promoted nationally and Internationally?

Still it doesn't surprise me in this day and age with many League supporters "Bugger you jack, I'm all right" attitude. The Roosters ask for the salary cap to be scrapped - "Let's kick em out of the N.R.L. doesn't worry me, it's not my club!" The Dogs have rape accusations thrown at them- "Let's kick em out of the N.R.L. doesn't worry me, it's not my club!"
We want to make League more popular in Australia and worldwide - "Let's make 6 Sydney clubs merge into 3, establish the Gold Coast and Wellington Rugby League Clubs.... Doesn't worry me, those 6 Sydney clubs are not my clubs!" - Is it any wonder that League is going to the dogs, and AFL is sh*tting on us left, right and centre?!

You think the current 6 Sydney teams makes bad business sense? Obviously having 7 teams in Melbourne hasn't done the AFL any harm (Hawthorn, Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Nth Melbourne, Melbourne, & Richmond) They have 5 interstate teams as well, (Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Fremantle & West coast) and it hasn't done the AFL any harm, in-fact they are stronger for it! Making 6 Sydney teams merge into 3 will be suicide for League. Most of their supporter base, including myself, would turn their backs on League if their team had to play as a joint venture. Want to totally kill off league? as I've said, you're going about it the right way.

Only way to promote League in AFL states and other countries is to nurture it in local/school competitions first... then establish NRL clubs as it gains popularity. This killing off/merging Sydney clubs to make way for new clubs bullsh*t is old, tired and simply will not work!

The NRL NEEDS to allow the Gold Coast to enter, it is the needed strategic move.
We NEEED to seal up the South East of Qld and in doing so the 3 NRL Clubs of Qld and the QRL need to get together and make a joint domination strategy for Qld.
They need to work as one. It will help everyone.

I would lvoe to see Wellington and Central Coast in but GC is far more important.

i disagree...
central coast seems to be a greater threat in terms of union taking over..
gold coast can be added in the near future but CC is totally ready to go and deserves the chance

Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of this, but I don't see why we need to kill-off or merge more Sydney teams in order to do it. - Ludicrous suggestion.

Sign of the Times.

Sydney Clubs need to go, but it needs to be handled with a bit more subtlety and dignity than forcing them to merge and die. Allow them to kill themselves (Through bad management and hard times) and/or relocate. No need for the administrative body to alienate itself from the fan-base again.

SINCE WHEN DO FOOTBALL FANS WANT FEWER ROUNDS?????

I think the people saying the season is too long are ridiculous. Footballers have a pretty good life as it is. Paid well, have months off, short days.

They play a lot more games of football per year in the UK. And they are saying... this is all too much! Honestly.........

Someone rang up a radio station the other day and suggested that a 16th team be created in the Bush, eg. Orange or Dubbo

While this idea has merit in the fact that there is a lot of great young talent out yonger, the simple fact is that people are not going to be very willing to travel out there. The Sydney teams have the edge over the country because

a) There are more people which allows for bigger fanbases and
b) They have enough facilities and attractions to persuade out of area fans to come to Sydney.

The same applies to Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle, Warriors and Nth Qld
