18th club, whose next?

It's been passed by congress & signed off on. Whether it can be stopped or reversed is another thing. If NRL are engaged to create team, they'll want something in place be compensated even if pin is pulled.
Biden isn't content on f**king up America and Europe. He had to add Australia into the mix.

I wish our country had a backbone when it comes to foreign policy.

Know it's off subject but according to Presidential terms
Reagan first to hit $1 trillion
Obama 2008 $10.025 trillion
2016 $ 19.573 trillion
Trump 2017 $20.245T
2020 $26.945 T
Biden 2021 $28.428T
2023 $33.167T
I don't trust any politician making promises about financing PNG team , especially from the U.S.
AllI know it's a flipping load of debt.
I wouldn't be surprised if the debt crisis leads to WWIII or civil war within numerous nations.

NSW Cup players don’t train with their NRL counterparts now, the cost of flying both NRL and NSW Cup teams across to NSW would be ridiculous.
You wouldn’t have a NSW Cup side in WA to fly them across, these guys are not full time players, they have jobs, they would be exhausted, only the players who didn’t make the final Perth Bears NRL line up for that weekend would be flown across like the Storm currently does with their feeder clubs the Bears, Brissy Tigers and Sunshine Coast Falcons.
The Bears name their NSW Cup side late Tuesday afternoon as do the NRL sides, then is the Bears are playing at 3pm on Sunday they release their final run on team at 2pm, one hour before kick off and that is when there are usually four or five Storm players added to the 18 made squad.
There are major obstacles for a full National reserve grade competition, the Redcliffe Dolphins are the only Hostplus Qld Cup side who match their NRL counterparts, there are 14 other clubs who are dead against it.

It really is that simple. People aren't using logic here but that is one of the issues Perth will have.

The Storm model is what they should follow, to keep costs lower or the club will fail

I’m actually going down to NSO on Saturday for the NSW Cup’s version of Magic Round, they are also holding a Beer, Footy and Food Festival so it should be a big day with three games of rugby league played Warriors v Panthers, Raiders v Dragons and the Grand Final rematch between the Bears v the Rabbitohs. Not going on Sunday though as I want to watch the Usyk v Fury heavyweight boxing bout for all the belts.
Hopefully I’ll talk to Daniel Dickson, Kurt De Luis and others before I have one to many beers lol.

I wonder if it`s these sort of `hipster` events are part of what V`landy`s has on his mind in getting the Bears back in the NRL.
Lower north shore became a big growth area for fumbleball over the last twenty years and the retro-feelgood thing with the Bears might get some of these fans back on board. While they might not get to see the first-grade Perth Bears (and let`s face it they are going to be known as the Bears) playing out of NS oval they may just find it hip enough to watch a women`s team playing there and certainly attending events like the one you mention, which just might get some of that lost generation back on the Bears` band-wagon and attend some of the Perth Bears away games around Sydney.
It`d make you think a big grudge match against Manly at Allianz could be anything.

V`landys in today`s The Australian :

“It (expansion to PNG) is a few years away but we are certainly looking at this with the Federal government,” V’landys said.

That sounds like a lot further away than 2027 or 2028, I suggest a little back-tracking going on now.

Bennett`s thoughts on what might be necessary to make it work;

"Super coach Wayne Bennett, who has helped new franchise the Dolphins become a force, has suggested the code finance the construction of an NRL ‘mini city’ in Port Moresby.

"That could see players and their families live in a state-of-the-art, high-security NRL compound with services such as schooling, medical, child care and shopping facilities."

Sounds wonderful. :eek:o_O🤮

They could but North Queensland’s overall population isn’t that big in comparison to the large geographical catchment area - all relative of course. I feel like any side based in Cairns is right inside Cowboys country. Right now Cowboys use Pride as a feeder due to Blckhawks and Cowboys having some sort of dispute.

If PNG were to come in and be based in Cairns it would make sense for Hunters and Pride to be their feeder sides but again then you’re hurting Cowboys for no reason.

The NRL could announce all 3 remaining expansion sides simultaneously and introduce them staggered of course but keep PNG to team 20. Perth and NZ are better positioned to come in as 18 and 19. At least that way they can guarantee PNG a side keeping all the political bureaucrats happy but it would also give sufficient time to get it right from many various critical aspects - which so far I think have had minimal thought put into it.

They just live & function in Cairns. Play in PNG. I don't see how Perth is well placed without backers. Norths would have to own them & then that setup needs planning.

To be honest, they would be better off basing the PNG side in Brisbane. Still a direct flight to PNG, albeit a bit longer than the Cairns flight. This would at least allow a bit better access to players and infrastructure. I still think they would be better off with Brisbane 3 that would require a certain amount of games played in PNG. That way, if funding or safety ever became issues, the Brisbane 3 team would just become a full time Brisbane team in terms of home games.

The players loved being locked in a bubble during covid. This week be a huge draw card for PNG.

I think we're look at this the wrong way. Base the team in Sydney. Fly in Papuans from PNG, we should be able to squeeze 20000 into a Hercules plane. They watch the game, we fly them back

Doesn't feel that much different to what the Warriors do now though? or is there something else I'm missing

Warriors are different as they run their own teams.

They normally fly out the morning of the game.

So that allows their part time players to complete work or study for the week then pay games and train around that.

Perth to Sydney you'd have to leave the Friday for a Sat game and get back Sunday, Not ideal for players who are juggling work around it.

Having full timers do the trip isn't as bad because it is their job and the club would make training arrangements Etc around that
