You've already admitted you don't know how the funding works. Your not some beacon of knowledge anyone here will bow too.
Again his bias shines through. Keep coming back to the question, what is best for perth?

It would cost around $400-500k a year to run the NSW cup side out of Perth rather than Sydney. Jobs wise there is a ton of tradie jobs here needed and many of the WA RL people have their own companies. Setting players up with work wont be an issue.
Now the funding is so much higher the original Reds model is what should be looked at. It strengthened the local comp to much a higher standard and created a genuine Perth based club. None of this FIFO rubbish from Sydney. Use North Sydney for for finding finding jnrs up 20/21 year olds then bring over to Perth to be part of the Perth club.

Its likely we will have a full reserve grade by 2029 anyway so all a pointless argument really.

It really is that simple. People aren't using logic here but that is one of the issues Perth will have.

The Storm model is what they should follow, to keep costs lower or the club will fail

Just as many issues with a Perth based team, except if PNG goes ahead that means it has guaranteed funding. Perth still scratching around, with the bears being the best financial offer.

Clubs are now making $2mill + profit. On a 15k crowd, 20k membership decent sponsorship portfolio its more than manageable. Warriors are doing it, Storm are moving to it, most clubs in NRL do it and the Qlnd clubs will be soon enough.

PVL interviewed outside Suncorp this morning with the announcement that Magic Round has been committed to Brisbane for a further 3 years -

He was asked about expansion -

* Perth in a great position
* PNG are not guaranteed to be the #18th side.
* PNG/Aus Gov/Bid meeting happening later today
* Considers Bears linking with Perth as the sensible proposition - mentioned Bears resources again ie juniors, cash, set up etc.
* Considers Bears and Perth combination as more valuable and enticing
* PNG more than just an NRL side
* NZ 2 have 2 bids and he has spoken to both

I have the snippet but can’t upload it - it’s on NRL On 9 on Facebook though.

Warriors - since 1995. Changed management already since their original conception. In a rugby dominated country. Have resources and ready made fan base (as in easier to understand one code from the other).

Storm - since 1998. Owned by News Ltd. Sporting city. Great consistent sustained success over their existence.

QLD - rugby league heartland. Self explanatory.

WA - not comparable to the above 3. Lots of work to be done. By V’Landys own admission as recent as 15 minutes ago - it’s makes sense to link with an existing club and by his own words that existing club being Bears. It’s getting to the point where I’d be bemused if this isn’t a done deal already behind the scenes. The words that keep being used by the ARLC in regard to it just point to it.

Great, now start a club from scratch & expect those numbers. Need money to get off ground & support team when they not winning.

Pretty much everything we've been saying about Perth Bears: strongest financial proposition for west Aussie team.

Cheers for posting. Good interview.

Some other comments

PNG: Meeting with Govt today, said it was D day and not everything is agreed. he said 'we have a few negotiating points we havent got over. If we dont get over them unfortunately it wont happen'

PNG: Confirmed it wont be based in Cairns and will be based in PNG if it happens. He said: 'Basing it in Australia means its not really a PNG team'. (Cowboys clearly put their foot down lol)

PNG: Still talking to Aus Govt about players getting 50% tax break!

Perth: He said 'Perth bid is looking very very good and maybe PNG wont be first'

Perth: he said 'Linking with Bears or Jets isnt a condition at this stage but it would help the bid. Would make sense for Perth to look at that proposal (re Bears)

I was talking about those clubs in the context of running their own NSW cup sides not having them based in another state/country. If Warriors are managing it there is no reason a Perth club cant.

Looks like he's trying to put pressure on government ahead of talks today.

This is encouraging. Perth first, bears or jets secondary.
As it should be. They should assess what the Perth bid is offering then determine if they feel they can be successful alone or if they can only be successful with a link up. That is the fairest way to do it, and if they do it that way and believe a Perth club can only be successful with a Bears link up then I can live with that as I am sure the Perth consortium will. Then the ball is in the Bears court to accept the non negotiables of perth bid as long as they dont contradict theirs ie called the Bears, in red and black and respecting the NS Bears history.

The NSO game should be a purely commercial decision.
