If they allow PNG into the competition then they're in no position to tell Perth to link up with a Queensland or NSW Cup team. PNG will never attract top talent and rely on locals barely good enough for Queensland Cup.

PNG have a QLD Cup team. Will run juniors under that.

a vast difference than having players go back in what is essentially an A grade competition

I think it’s clear the nrl will chose cumins consortium to own the club. That will give them the choice of who and how partnerships happen. I can see a perth branded (pirates, reds or something. Else) and owned club with a partnership with Newtown, giving them funds and a direct pathway to allow them to restart up hm, sg, flegg and maintain a nsw cup team.

re development model, see comment above re what happened in early 90’s.

If his model is too risky and runs last it cancels out any benefit a Perth team brings, The clubs and other stake holders won't allow it. The delay on PNG is likely due to push back recently.

The early 90's where the Red's ended up going broke? Yeah lets copy that again. If that model was better we'd have other teams doing it.

There is a reason every team does it the other way.

not to mention no player will accept that over the other 16 teams. Where they can train in a state of the art CoE and test themselves against the other elite fringe guys in a quality reserve grade teamj

I’m really not sure what you’re saying here? I think you are misconstruing what cumins is saying.

A Perth team will run a nsw cup side out of perth (at least until reserve grade is reintroduced), players that are not in first grade or nsw cup side will play in nrlwa teams with the opportunity to continue to develop in a strengthened nrlwa premiership. Like I said last time we ran a national reserve grade side them had around another 50 or so contracted development players spread across WARL clubs.

I suspect they will also run flegg and sg ball out of perth then invest in having strong local systems under sg ball age group.

alongside that they will likely have a partnership or two with east coast nsw or qlnd cup clubs.

so where’s the risk in that?

reds financial challenges were due to last minute imposed extra travel costs, not due to the pathways model.

“Talks have been held with both former top flight clubs, although an alliance with the Bears has the support of ARL Commission chair Peter V’landys as the game looks to revive a latent supporter base and one of the most powerful brands in the game.

While the Bears link has dominated talk there is some reluctance at the Western Australian government level to join forces with North Sydney. Instead, Newtown have been quietly building their own case in the background and have forged strong relationships with the powerbrokers in Western Australia.”

pvl vs wa govt there can be only one winner

so obviously this story was likely leaked by Cummins to stay relevant

I think this latest one came straight from the bid team

Oh and apparently the 2 completely different stories came from the same source.

It’s almost like you dont understand that things would change dramatically with a Perth owned nrl club locally, or that the perth club will have east coast/nz/england pathway partnerships lol
How much money do you think there is to go around ?, all the money goes towards their MAIN roster, let me explain, every club works under a salary cap, the more money you spend on NRL Pathways the less you will have for your top team, now if Perth go it alone they will have less money to play with, same with if they go with Newtown (better off going it alone in that case as Newtown have no NRL pathways).
You either have a strong roster or a weak roster, build your NRL pathways fast or take your time like the Storm have.

Not sure if other NSW Cup teams will agree to the costs of travelling to WA and there is one obstacle already.
Most NSW Cup (NRL counterparts) or QLD Cup teams are taken so it will be interesting if any would link up without $$$ financial gain (more drain on your top rosters income).
That is one of the main reasons the Sharks and Manly haven’t established their own reserve grade, financial costs.

Not sure you understand how the cap works. Nrl Clubs carry a 30 man first team roster. Beyond That a nsw or qlnd cup partnership club can carry non perth nrl rostered players, like bears are carrying Kurt Not souths.

theres nothing stopping a Perth nrl club giving 6 nrlwa clubs $100k say each to host a couple of 20-25 year old east coasters, kiwis or English lads in their squads and put themselves in the perth nrl clubs window.

Well youre not sure it’s an issue so it’s not an obstacle yet is it lol? I’m sure it will be worked out with nrl. Are you forgetting we have hosted sg ball and Jim beam sides already?

Most but not all, and partnerships change all the time.

a perth nrl club funding Newtown to run Sydney jnr sides wouldn’t be any drain at all on the perth clubs nrl salary cap lol

no the reason manly and Cronulla haven’t is because they are two of the lowest earners and couldnt afford it. with the increased grant more and more clubs are switching to running their own sides. Only a matter of time till reserve grade is back.

Perth better go with Norths because they have proven they can run a successful club. Back in 1921-22.
When was the Raiders last Premiership ?, 1994, 30 years ago, I remember because the Bears were playing in the competition back then.
In reality Canberra is like PNG, nobody wants to go there, but as they have a NRL club they get an opportunity get a reputation and then move on to greener pastures.
Your current halves partnership Ethan Strange (Central Coast junior, Entrance Tigers) and Kaeo Weekes (North Sydney junior, Asquith Magpies), yes I know both lads well, both will leave in a few years.
Now that is your recipe for success, that is why Ricky Stuart always looks so happy.

Settle petal. I know your hopes and dreams have been scuppered again so I can see why you might be getting a little emotional.

For the record: I support Canberra. I don't own them. How they perform isn't a reflection on my own life. This is sport guys.

The only thing that has stopped it so far and will continue to be a road block is the QLD Cup side of things, Ben Ikin nearly got stoned to death recently when he was in control and tried to change things, death threats etc.
