18th club, whose next?

So if they are to play at suncorp why should they be isolated to a small slice of the city ala cronulla or manly and be consigned to being a small club forever?

Cos people say it's a growth area? Okay, who is providing the growth? Immigrants with no knowledge or affiliation to rugby league?
People who know rugby league who already have a team? Why would they adopt a new unknown team over the other 2 brisbane clubs or the gold coast club south of them?

All I'm saying is right now they don't add anything to the nrl as a whole and are unlikely to become what is needed which is a big club like the broncos.

People need to stop thinking that they can see a part of a city with a big or growing population and think because there isn't a team with their suburb name in the top grade that they have to have an nrl club even while they are served by 2 other clubs.

If the people there follow rugby league than they have every opportunity to see live games in brisbane already.
If we're going by TV ratings and revenue from football operations them Brisbane is screaming out for a third team. The Broncos and Dolphins are the two richest and best supported rugby league clubs in the world. Brisbane Tigers are loaded with money and assets.

Broadcasters will want another team from Brisbane because it will be a ratings winner.

Head of Strategy for WWOS, Simon Fordham is on record saying Ch9 want another team in Brisbane.

I think this latest one came straight from the bid team
It sounds like it did in that particular article. I was referring back to the people saying that it's the journalists saying things in these articles and not from actually sources

If you see sources say anywhere in an articles, it's a source that doesn't want to openly identify because they can't associate themselves with the speculation as they don't want to appeared biased favouring one bid over another, but it's a source from NRL media department. Not the head but their assistant just ringing the journalist directly saying 'I've got a story for you but I can't go on the record'.

I know because I've done myself so I can see the pattern.

I'm not against brisbane having a 3rd team somewhere in the future but it has to be done right. If you compare tv ratings and revenue to sydney clubs then yeah on average brisbane is way ahead.
But why is that? Because we haven't overcrowded brisbane like we have sydney!

I wouldn't say brisbane is absolutely screaming for a 3rd club either, not atm.

Yes the broncos are doing well and finally living up to their potential.

But look at the dolphins in only their second year.
They are currently averaging 20k and could easily average less than the 25k they had in their inaugural year if weather and form don't go there way the rest of the season.

They don't currently play all their home games at suncorp or even in brisbane, 2 years in a row they have sold a game to wa.

I'm not deathriding them and want them to be successful so a 3rd brisbane club as team 20 is viable.

Ideally you would say brisbane is screaming for a third club when the bronx are consistently averaging 40k+ and the dolphins are closer to 30k than 20k with all games at suncorp.

We can't have the same mistakes as sydney, it should be easy to avoid making small clubs. It's a waste of a license if a brisbane club turns into a small suburban franchise.

Really just keeping Norths junior district alive long enough for Perth to be able to produce their own. Fairly pragmatic

I see one of the biggest strengths of having the Bears as the Perth team is ability to retain the North Sydney District for the Perth side ongoing coupled with the junior development we expect to see in Perth and WA. It’s their district, I don’t see other clubs should get their hands on it by default.

I think what is really clear is that no decisions on who and how in Perth have been made but ultimately it will come down to the cumins consortium to decide who they want to partner with, if anyone.

hate to say I told you so lol
Thinking isn’t your strong point then is it. Remove the bias.

No, they'll be told to send them over east, unless the national reserve grade is up and running.
Here is your local Perth fifo competition (5 teams) that is going to compete against the NSW Cup and QLD Cup feeder competitions.
I’ve added the last three rounds so you can see the differences in the sides.

You honestly think that the clubs and NRL will allow a Perth team who's plan is to put excess players into a 3rd rate competition over the QCup or NSW Cup is going to get in?
If they allow PNG into the competition then they're in no position to tell Perth to link up with a Queensland or NSW Cup team. PNG will never attract top talent and rely on locals barely good enough for Queensland Cup.

Which was a fear many people raised when redcliffe was chosen as a second Brisbane club and didn't choose to have Brisbane or even north Brisbane in the name.

A mistake imo and unless they wake up and right the wrongs of playing in a 10k stadium then they could easily waste the potential of being a second big brisbane club, especially if they have lean years like the titans.
I might phone the club and ask them why they're playing in a substandard ground that can only accommodate 11.5k people. It's poor business and tells people not from Moreton Bay that we're not welcome.

Because Sydney and Brisbane are like for like.

smh. Come on.
The two largest and richest rugby league clubs in the world are from Brisbane. The poorest club is from Sydney. Most of the poorest clubs are from Sydney.

FFS, the Cowboys are larger and richer than most Sydney clubs despite being from a city that has just 180k people.

Do I need to show you TV ratings and attendances to reinforce my point?

So players not in NRL go and play locally... That will ensure they run bottom 4 almost every year
That was the original reds model. Invest and strengthen the local premier comp as a pseudo reserve grade for player development. Reds signed around 80 players from nz and east coast back in 1994 and placed them across the WARL clubs. Each WARL premiership club got $50k a year grant from Reds to improve coaching and facilities.

I think it’s clear the nrl will chose cumins consortium to own the club. That will give them the choice of who and how partnerships happen. I can see a perth branded (pirates, reds or something. Else) and owned club with a partnership with Newtown, giving them funds and a direct pathway to allow them to restart up hm, sg, flegg and maintain a nsw cup team.

re development model, see comment above re what happened in early 90’s.

It’s almost like you dont understand that things would change dramatically with a Perth owned nrl club locally, or that the perth club will have east coast/nz/england pathway partnerships lol
