No what you have been saying is that we shouldn’t introduce a perth team in 2028 because of reds crowds in 1997.
This despite the fact the last ten years have seen a crowd avg in perth for neutral teams of 16.7k It’s either a troll or stupidity. Hard to say.
Yet you put up one off events, including state of origin games, as proof that Perth can attract crowds.

That is slanting stats to your advantage. Or trolling by your own definition.

No, I put up origin and nrl games over the last decade as examples of current interest in rugby league here. I’ve said all along there’s at least 20k active rugby league fans in perth. Another 20k at least passive or interested people.
The trick will be for a new nrl club to engage them and get them coming along 12 times a year. The potential is there but like any team you have to work hard to realise that potential.
we only need to attract 20k paying members and a 15k crowd avg to be financially and attendance wise on par with most of the current clubs

why he thinks crowds 25 years ago, during the SL war when fans everywhere were abandoning the game in droves has any relevance to perth now is beyond everyone lol

Anything that happened during Super League, whilst not completely ignored for lessons to be gained, should be looked at with a degree of suspicion.

Essentially everything done from 1995 to when the competition expanded way too quickly to just after the Super League was a mistake. Not the ideas of expanding but essentially the execution of these ideas and the context in which they were made.

For example, you do realise that essentially half the competition from 1997-1999 were either merged or killed off? So why would I argue that just because something failed within this context that it will or would again, particularly when the competition has a lot more money now, we are unlikely to ever have such an event again and the grants given to each club renders the likelihood of financial failure pretty remote

If we were to have this viewpoint then we would never try to expand again
Expansion in 95 was fine

if the arl comp was left alone it would’ve continued its massive growth pass

out of the four teams added in 1995 all bar one are back or will be added back

I think it was a little bit too much. I’m a pretty optimistic guy and I loved the vision but they could of spaced it a bit better - add two in one go and then maybe the other two 4 or 5 years later.

Rugby league was bullletproof back then

maybe some Sydney clubs would’ve died or relocated but 20 teams would’ve survived

I’ve always wondered where League would be today if not for super league

Canberra is a RL stronghold with clubs and thier supporters a commute away and your complaining about their crowds...of 12k
YOU are poking fun at those crowds.
Perth has no rusted on week in week out fans, no fans that can commute and it is an AFL town.
After 2 seasons of underperforming because players don't want to move 4000km away.
Seriously, what do you think those crowds look like?
Thursday night in Perth, sitting 2nd iff the bottom playing the Gold Coast..
If you want to have a serious discussion, this is your chance.
I'll say 5k.

Before SL Perth weren't going to bad on the field yet crowds were around 6k , I think a team there today would be much better than that but it's still probably around the 10k mark if they are middling..
Around the bottom probably 8k , top 4 maybe 12k .
These comparisons with crowds over the last 10 years are as relevant as their opening 2 games where they got over 20k.
Once the novelty wears off, probably 10k.

It's a massive investment to have another Perth team. Very much like the Brisbane Lions, after 30 plus years and a few premierships it really is still a niche and probably only big for Victorian ex pats.
Also like the Storm.

AFL territory is AFL territory.
Nrl territory is Nrl territory.

It has never really been broken. Are we all of a sudden thinking that Perth will break that.
Wake up people
Geez your reaching pretty deep now.
6k Perth were getting 6k.
You're going after the Raider cause they get double? 🤦‍♂️

There’s no doubt it’ll be a challenge, especially when the nrl refuses to support new clubs to help them hit the ground running. there’s things that could happen to lesson the risk but its unlikely the dumb nrl will mitigate the risk.
Problem is if that is the position then the game will never ever grow beyond nsw and qlnd. Wellington will struggle if the history of the warriors is anything to go by.
Thats right
Forget NZ2
It's a dream of some
