What about the China issue you posted
LoL 😂
Huh? Ques que cet
I didn't say anything about china... i dont care what politically drives the govt to fund this team, i just want more expansion, and to places that deserve it, who have done the hard yards, been playing it for ever, and are involved within their communities, to keep growing more talent to feed the competition as much as they take from it

Canberra is a RL stronghold with clubs and thier supporters a commute away and your complaining about their crowds...of 12k
YOU are poking fun at those crowds.
Perth has no rusted on week in week out fans, no fans that can commute and it is an AFL town.
After 2 seasons of underperforming because players don't want to move 4000km away.
Seriously, what do you think those crowds look like?
Thursday night in Perth, sitting 2nd iff the bottom playing the Gold Coast..
If you want to have a serious discussion, this is your chance.
I'll say 5k.
8-10k on a bad day, 16-20k on a good day. Pretty much the same as 80% of nrl clubs.

Why, it will be a boon to the player pool and show that this code isn't afraid of boosting the competition and including areas that AFL would think would be unrealistic, RL have balls to go to NZ in '95, theyll have bigger ones to get PNG involved
People are worried about perth being able to attract players due to distance from east coast, how the hell does a team that has to fly to games EVERY week and play their home games in Port Moresby attract anyone?

2028 WC Pirates
2031 Adelaide Bears
2033 sth qnsland firehawks or southern Orcas depending how warriors/dolphins are travelling

nrl to spend an additional $50mill on jnr rl every year in aus, png and nz ($5mill WA, $5mill Vic, $10mill NZ, $2mill SA, $5mill png, $1mill NT, $22mill nsw, qlnd and act)

thatd put the nrl in an unbeatable position for the decades ahead.

South Island junior teams to compete in jersey flegg and sg ball competitions and png hunters to compete in similar Queensland junior competitions.

There’s heaps of ways to increase the jnr pool, but it takes strategy and investment.
Something the Rl has historically been pss poor at. I mean Vlandys thinks college football is the answer Ffs!

Exactly.

just think of the position the NRL and RL in general would be in if the NRL and invested in Fiji 20-25 years ago.

Because they won’t be based in png
Did he? I’ll have to read it back.
Last thing the game should want is a failed expansion team. We have already had enough of them
No risk no reward

if the worst case scenario is the bid isn’t sustainable and the fed govt cans funding after 15. Years it still would’ve grown rugby league in png a lot

and there’s a good chance the bud becomes sustainable

look at the Melbourne storm for example after news ltd invested 100 milllikn into them

Not being based in ong is why they will have to fly to EVERY game home and away. Whose going to choose to do that?

theres zero chance they become sustainable and govt would need to put in a hell of a lot more than $150mil to make it viable for the nrl.
The lack of value to tv and the extra costs means it’s going cost the nrl around $20mil a year with zero revenue return for them. You’d want a lot more than ten years of funding so you are well over $200mill to even consider the risk.

are you really comparing the revenue generation opportunity of melbourne v Port Moresby? Lol

Nrl grant 15 million
Federal govt grant 15 million

club revenue 30 million.

P

PNG has a player pool but not every player is a Justin Olam.
There's a lot of players in PNG but the reality is as a people their physiques are small.
The percentage of people in png who are 6 foot or taller is minuscule.
So the NRL level of talent isn't great.

It's a massive misconception that the NRL aren't tapping their talent. Of the top of my head there was 4 PNG guys who a train and trial with the Dolphins.. none made the cut.

The issue with PNG talent:
Papuans are an average 159.21cm (5 feet 2.68 inches) tall. Papuan men are 163.56cm (5 feet 4.39 inches) tall on average.26 June 2019

Just spitballing here but maybe if you could get the top 50 kumuls in every age group from u15’s to u21’s into a program eating the best foods and training in a professional environment it could add a couple of inches to your average kumul?
