Yeah but for how long?

I wouldn’t trust any government as far as I could throw them.
Maybe but it will be a minimum of 150 million which isn’t available otherwise

even if they took the money to see if it’s viable then relocate later if it’s not

the federal govt is paying the nrl to expand they would be stupid to say no to that kind of money

Doesn’t matter if it’s the government’s money or the NRL’s money it would lose it nonetheless.
As long as its the govts then the NRL have no reason not to try it... if it fails, then move onto to someone else who is willing to buy a license

Canberra is a RL stronghold with clubs and thier supporters a commute away and your complaining about their crowds...of 12k
YOU are poking fun at those crowds.
Perth has no rusted on week in week out fans, no fans that can commute and it is an AFL town.
After 2 seasons of underperforming because players don't want to move 4000km away.
Seriously, what do you think those crowds look like?
Thursday night in Perth, sitting 2nd iff the bottom playing the Gold Coast..
If you want to have a serious discussion, this is your chance.
I'll say 5k.
I'm gonna say top of the table clash, so 17, 876. Unless the Western stand has been replaced, then it will be 25,564.

The only benefit but at what cost to any true and lasting expansion in Perth or NZ?

I fear you could be right because of the geopolitical situation surrounding China.

hope not though to be truthful.
Why, it will be a boon to the player pool and show that this code isn't afraid of boosting the competition and including areas that AFL would think would be unrealistic, RL have balls to go to NZ in '95, theyll have bigger ones to get PNG involved

I think png can actually work out financially

each bid has their own pros and cons

if it’s 20 teams there’s still room for Perth and nz2

still leaves out Adelaide and Ipswich / western coridoor

even if they are dirt poor the population of png is a game changer for league

Balls is all Vdog is about... to have the balls to go somewhere the other guys wont and make money out it
Tbf it’s only cause of albanese or Perth would be getting it

Perth still have a strong chance now anyway imo

if they tie in with the bears they probably beat png

best case arlc announce png as the winner for 18 then Perth and nz2 as teams 19 and 20 and the time frame of inclusion

PNG already has the player pool but NRL teams seem reluctant to tap into it for what ever reason.

NZ isn’t a 3rd world country with huge domestic issues though.

I get what you are saying but do we want to really relocate it if doesn’t work? That’s worse than actually not giving them a license in the first place - you take something away from the PNG people then that would likely sour relations.

I don’t know it’s a difficult one but my inclination is to wait until PNG can actually sustain a side of its own.
