Yep im aware

Those fish are already being caught and eaten

There's new fish to catch elsewhere, but involves an initial effort
Continuining with analogies and to put it simply..
If you owned a franchise, would you keep opening stores in the one place because "that's where the current customers are"

Or do you expand into new markets and get new customers

OR...do both...it is the very point of having this team, and build an acedemy and have the pathways link towards it
Yes, but hold off on the team until it can be done right,

which if this needs clarification, right doesn't equal basing a racially based quasi multi-national team in a small isolated regional city, and flying to games all over the pacific and Australia EVERY WEEK

Totally agree. How do you ever expect to get new customers if you don’t market to them?

PNG isnt identified as "pasifika", hows that work then?

It’d be interesting to get the PNG Government’s thoughts on all this. They’ve never shown any inclination towards using Cairns as a base despite the mayor pushing it for years, frankly Sydney or Brisbane would make more sense if they have to be FIFO to start. Now they’re having 3 or more small countries with very few connections to PNG being pinned on to them by outsiders as some sort of “super bid”.

PNG has roughly 8x the population of the rest combined, their government will provide funding, host most of the games, provide the largest amount of supporters and largest player pool but they seemingly won’t even get the PNG name on it.

Not in competition? He is either lying or he doesn’t understand how it all works
Just trying to drum up support, gauge interest, they wont go back there guaranteed, it would rival the broncos and nobody wants that, redcliffe if far enough removed that its not too much of an issue, but one in the western corridor (a place that provided the bulk of the broncos players over the 30 years) is a direct treat to the bronx, same as easts tigers... the teams following cairns are perth and adelaide, then its close up shop

I should learn my lesson and not doubt you. I hope you’re right although I wouldn’t be disappointed with another Kiwi side

Trying to do too many things at once usually leads to none of those things being done right

Sure if you chuck a rock you could kill 2 birds with one stone, but it's more likely if you try to aim at both you'll end up just missing both

Your the only one who thinks its a "racial" thing, no one's saying you can't contract outside of the pathways built from these islands...
Steven price captained the warriors to a GF, james maloney and chad townsend were the halves in their last GF run...
Your being disingenuous to the idea of the bid, coz you think just because they are sourcing from the islands that there is a bias to having to be from the pacific, this is NOT state of origin people, its a club competition there is no union rules about eligibility, anyone from any club can be the captain , coach, halfback, fullback etc

I'm the only one? It's been mentioned many times, and IMO is quite clear, it's literally called pacifka, that would be like the warriors being called the "new Zealanders"

And the warriors literally went through a long phase of trying to be a national team, something they've only recently realised was a mistake and reverted to Auckland branding

plus what Australian player is going to want to play for this Club flying all over the place every single week, and based somewhere just as isolated as Perth but much much smaller

It's funny people use travel and isolation as a reason not to admit a Perth team, but those same people are happy with this so called bid with twice as much travelling, with the added headache of clearing customs from a third world country, and multiple connecting flights because Cairns doesn't regularly fly direct to png

“I want to see a PNG-based, Pacific Islander team compete in the National Rugby League”
And....
Any club who has pathways towards these islands are likely going to have the bulk of the 30 man squad dervive from those areas, its like having a cowboys side, that are just all qlders, which is not true, the captain is from tonga, halfback, fullback are from sydney, coach is from canberra

Anywhere, same place every other clubs comes from, could even set up something with PNG, hunters don't have any feeder arrangements

And exactly, so why not actually expand the games footprint

And those players wouldn't get poached elsewhere?

So to use it as a negative against 1 bid only is dumb

But thats the point of this, we want them poached and next up man from the pathways, the reason this bid has come about is to increase the player pool

I'm not using it as a negative, I'm saying it's a moot point, you don't need a png club (that isn't even actually a png club because it's not based there) to have pathways for png players into the NRL

And with that being the case what is the actual point of this team???

There's little to no financial gain to be had from games in PNG from crowds, merchandise or broadcasting, especially one that's not even based there

I am in no way against a png side, im all for an actual port moresby based side and think its a long term project that we should build towards for when the country is acgually capable of doing so

You honestly believe the side will only be islanders and png players ?

Depends on a lot of things between here and them ever setting foot on an NRL field but that is certainly the image they seem to be pushing. If they had a play at Taumalolo or Yeo as their marquee signing who do you think they would go for?

Also a FIFO side won’t be attracting many Australian or NZ players anyway but that’s another matter.
