But they (the NRL) are not though are they, so you do have to wonder if this Perth thing is just a mirage and is not going to happen despite our hopes.
I would have thought if Perth had such a strong case, and the NRL would know this behind the scenes, then you`d think they`d be shouting it from the rooftops, yet we hear nothing about it amongst all the options that V`landy`s keeps spouting.
wouldnt surprise me at all. I dont think NRL has a national vision for the game. It has traditionally gone for low hanging fruit and nothing much has changed from what I can see.

There's absolutely no way the NRL would have a 2nd NRL team in Vic in the next 5 years at the earliest dare say even 10. We may as well call them Melbourne Giants B.
It's PVL doing a sh*t stir at the AFL to sort of intrude into the Tasmanian new team/stadium blah blah news.
Don't know whether the Melbourne media mentioned it.If they did V'Landys succeeded.
Not sure getting people to laugh at your business is necessarily a great distraction tactic!

Yep, like I posted on the weekend.

There's votes to win in Tassie.

Ain't no votes in Port Moresby for the Feds.
And like I posted on the weekend this is not a vote winner in Tassie. But what would I know? I’ve only lived here for 64 years.

Well the AFL/Sheedy did it ,when they announced GWS would have a decent impact in Sydney's West ,and Polynesian kids would take up the game after Falou became a high profile inexperienced fumbler.
When the AFL announced all the people that played the game in N.Z
When John ONeill stated Rugby union would become the no 1 code in NSW and QLd and no 2 in the AFL states after the 2003 RWC in Oz.
Think quite a few people got decent laughs with those comments.

What makes you think they are going to disclose plans before they have thought it through ,taking into account the many variables involved cost, market penetration, TV ratings potential, crowds, competition from AFL ,Govt support, grassroots growth etc etc.
To me they saw the potential with the Dolphins which appeared to have many of those features.
I'm sure the 18th team will not be a dart board job, but given decent appraisal.

NRL considers expansion with second Victorian team
April 29, 2023 - 12:32PM

In a bid to further expand the National Rugby League (NRL), Chairman Peter V’Landys has hinted at introducing a second Victorian team to the competition.
Citing the success of inter-city rivalry achieved with the addition of a third Queensland team, V’Landys believes that a second Melbourne-based team would similarly energize the city’s sporting landscape.
This move aligns with the league’s ambitious plan to increase the number of participating teams to 20 by 2032.

and Vlandys' wheel of "this months flavor of expansion team" continues to roll

Did I suggest he didn't ? He sh*t stirs I've noted the fact you conveniently ignore the point,AFL heads have done so, and ditto ARU.
I'm stating the other codes stir the pudding when it suits.
A new team was included aka the Dolphins they didn't throw darts or just put flags on a map to include them.
Just don't continue let your blind hate for PVL , and ignore the reality of what other code's honchos say eg GWS.Of course you ignore that.
The AFL have been spruiking the chance of a 3rd team in WA ,they've made comments about their impact in the Northern sates(over the top at times).
I don't particularly like sh*t stirring other codes, but if they do it on occasions ,they must expect return serve.
My concern is whoever gets the 18th spot in the NRL that it doesn't end up being a bottomless pit of handouts,.It's gotta be well thought out.

point stands, he runs his mouth faster than I run my racing car engine. Sure you’d hope that when they actually decide where to put club 18 it’s with some rigour and long term vision for the game. But hey it’s Rugba league.

And have been mercilessly mocked for years for saying stupid shit.

Because others have said stupid shit, doesn't make PVLs stupid shit and less stupid.

My take, the PNG team is more a political statement to China saying PNG is our sphere of influence and a political statement to PNG Govt and people you are our responsibility and have been so since WW2 and we will stand by you. Whether having a PNG team stationed in Nth Queensland is a good thing ,and not at home (where security is an issue)is up for serious debate.
IOW China or CCP stick to your own sphere of influence. The thought of a Chinese naval base on our doorstep , would give every one the heebie jeebies.
However in the end, we can't tell South Pacific countries what they can and can't do.
Going against my earlier views if the Govt has $250m to spend, why not split it assisting PNG rugby league and facilities and the other half used to upgrade the Perth Stadium ?
One of the smaller Pacific Islands will fall into a Chinese debt trap, so we’re probably getting on a Chinese naval base on our doorstep regardless.

If it’s important for Australia to have links with PNG, then the government needs to pay for the privilege by funding other rugby league infrastructure.

Otherwise let them relocate GWS Giants there for all I care.

so looking into on Vlandy's past flavours of the months, maybe, just maybe, there is a some thought to it

first it was Perth, then NZ, then PNG, now Melb 2 - if we put the PNG side as a smokey based on external factors

Perth, NZ2, then Melb 2 in 2032 could be the NRLs preferred expansion order to 20 teams
or maybe he's just talking shit (probably)

Like I said the other day, the question with Melbourne is in 20 years is a city of 8 million still going to be a one team town? Or does a second side risk being another GWS? That’s what they’ll be discussing.

Frankly though, it’s pretty obvious that they’re just driving up talk about expansion for free publicity. The other aspect is that this literally tells every potential bidding location to bring something big to the table. No one is guaranteed anything.

This. And if we by some miracle V`landy`s did appear on this forum to answer questions I have little doubt he would chuckle, agree and then point to our record ratings and crowds and to use the words of Oscar Wilde, " there`s only one thing worse than being talked about, and that`s not being talked about ". Ask the aru and Oz soccer about that.

picture might be clearer in 10 or so years, could be viable for a team 20, but definitely not team 18

Point is he got a 17th team in place, and it so far has been a masterstroke. You cannot handle the fact.
He does run his mouth , yet he gets things done like the Everest in horse racing. He got involved in some rule changes, which seem to be working.
He organised first the bubbles in Brisbane during COVID, so he has had to put up with sh*t no other NRL CEO has had to put up with.
And he has arranged an income producing asset in Brisbane for the NRL.
And this year crowds and rating are up, the football in the main has been better and less crap from the bunker.
The Las Vegas thing is one out of left field ,if it makes decent loot you'd still whine.
Yep he's Greek and you're a Pom ,that's Australia. He has his flaws ,haven't had a rugby league CEO who hasn't.
