Whats that got to do with the premier retiring?
Or do you think Vlandys suddenly woke up on Friday and thought, 'oh heck McGowans going, might as well make PNG favourites now'? lol

Probably. Different premier different agenda. Have to appease factions & districts. Can't imagine too many ppl there want an ntl team

Albo loves souths but approved afl stadium in Tassie. Premier has to keep supporters both public & inside party on side

McGowan publicly backed an NRL club here and had the highest approval ratings of any WA premier. Sounds like a vote winner lol

From the horses mouth last year, sounds like the right man to back a WA bid:

Roger Cook:

"Anyone who was at the stadium for this year's sold-out State of Origin saw how passionate WA fans are about rugby league.
"It was an amazing night that sent a clear message to the National Rugby League executives who were there.
"If they want to make the NRL a truly national competition then they need to have a WA team playing every week.
"A WA team will be great for the competition but would also act as an economic driver for WA tourism businesses.
"WA has been the sporting capital of Australia in 2022 because of the McGowan Government's event strategy so it makes perfect sense to seriously investigate a bid for the 18th NRL franchise."

U think nrl team is election issue. If not troll, then incredibly stupid
eh? You was the one who brought politics into the WA Govts backing of an NRL club. I replied tongue in cheek that McGowan was hugely popular therefore his olicies, including backing an NRL club must have been.

Reality is nothings changed in that regard, in fact may have got stronger given Roger Cook's propensity to RL. Theyhave put $500k on the table to support a bid development. Beyond that no-one knows what else they are offering or what, if anything, the NRL is demanding.

Cairns would need a new stadium surely? Barlow isn't up to scratch. Unless they want the team based in Townsville.
Cairns will be a base, wont be playing home games there as much, maybe 2-4 if that, the idea is to take this team to the islands, aswell as the bulk to Port Moresby, think of the warriors during covid, the way they were setup, yes it wasn't ideal like because thet had to work in Australia while the virus was around aswell as protocols, but a standardized set up without those restrictions in place, set up in cairns
