Were you able to read the story?
I just read it. I lost interest when the writer says that Newtown are a feeder team to powerhouse club The Sydney Roosters.
If they are going to get people to write this stuff maybe get someone with a clue.
The rest of it is just the rehashed story from the other day.
I'll copy and paste it.

One of Sydney’s oldest rugby league clubs, Newtown Jets, is in discussions with a WA Government working party to form a Perth-based NRL franchise.
Talks began about two weeks ago over an informal bid to play 10 home games at HBF Park as the NRL’s 18th team.
There has been no formal commitment, but it is understood the proposal involves a reciprocal rights deal with other NRL teams to sell the “away” games as a membership package.
The Jets would provide a solid third-party foundation for the WA bid as it is the feeder club to NRL powerhouse Sydney Roosters and currently sits in second place in the second-tier NSW Cup.
Western Australia ripe for NRL expansion and can learn from Dolphins success says Wayne Bennett
The Jets are based at inner-city Henson Park in Marrickville, which is the heartland of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s electorate.

But the WA Government would not be interested in sharing home games at that venue, which would require a big cash injection to bring it up to NRL standard.
The WA working party has also been in discussions with North Sydney Bears, although they have been linked with a fifth Queensland team and a Pasifika franchise, based in Papua New Guinea and playing most if its home games out of Cairns.
A second New Zealand team is also in the frame.
The NRL is looking to expand the competition to 18 or 20 teams before the end of the current TV rights deal in 2027.
Both the Jets and Bears were founded in 1908. The Jets exited the NRL in 1983 and the Bears in 1999.
The Bears have released their own blueprint for readmission which includes 4-6 games at North Sydney Oval, 12 away games and 6-8 games at regional destinations.
Newtown’s interest follows a phone call from WA Premier and rugby league fan Roger Cook to Australian Rugby League Commission chair Peter V’landys to lobby for a Perth-based team.
Cook has been a long-time advocate for establishing an NRL team in Perth and as Tourism Minister spearheaded the push to bring State of Origin back to Optus Stadium in 2022, where it was played in front of a sell-out crowd.
He also played a central role in the establishment of the working party last October, headed by MP Peter Tinley and comprising stakeholders such as Venues West, and tasked with supporting the establishment of a team in Perth.
“It is a no-brainer for the NRL. If the NRL is to become a serious national competition then they need a WA team. It’s a simple as that,” Cook told The West Australian.
“From my recent discussions, I am confident that WA will have a NRL team at some stage in the future. It is just a matter of how and when.”
Tellingly, V’landys told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph his resistance to a WA team had changed following an earlier comment that WA was a “rusted-on AFL State”.
“I’ll acknowledge I was wrong with my initial thoughts,” he said.
“Perth has to be high on the table now, especially with a Premier so passionate about wanting to have a team there. They warrant serious consideration.
“If you’ve got a Government that’s going to get 100 per cent behind you, you’ve got a run-up start.
“We had a really good conversation and we’ll be chatting again. The fact he rang in his first week in the job shows how keen they are.”
The working party is confident WA has the corporate interest to sustain an NRL team.
Corporate ticket sales for a double-header at Optus Stadium featuring the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Cronulla Sharks and Redcliffe Dolphins and Newcastle Knights on August 5 sold out within a week.

west coast Newtown Jets
If the Newtown Jets are involved in a Perth bid, it'll be interesting to see what they bring to the table - and especially what the bottom lines are.

Got to think this is a move from Newtown to preserve their NSW Cup status, given that more and more Sydney NRL clubs are opting to bring reserves "in house" and play under their own brand - that's already seen Norths align with the Storm once the Roosters field their own NSW Cup team.

I imagine Newtown may have a lot less bottom lines than Norths, so that may appeal.

If it's just "We want a feeder club deal that secures our future - and maybe some branding elements, but we don't want anything near a majority stake (or even 50-50)", that might be palatable... certainly more than Norths "my way or the highway" angle.

I just hope branding doesn't get muddled with the Jets blue and white being added, as the projected red, yellow, black Pirates colors are more distinctive in the competition than yet another (predominantly) blue and white team - and that's even with the Dolphins red white & gold strip in the NRL.

Surely the commitment from Cook makes Perth the favourite for the 18th licence?

The game would be dumb to not take advantage of Cook's keenness to have a Perth-based team in the NRL.

If the Newtown Jets linked with an Ipswich Jets-based NRL team, it doesn't do as much as Perth could to protect their NSW Cup status.

Sure the branding synergies may be better, but in a feeder-club sense having an Ipswich-western corridor South East Queensland club use a foundation Sydney team is a bit daft, when there's the Ipswich Qld Cup side already there, plus whatever other Qld Cup clubs nearby they can pull into their tent.

If the jets are coached by Wayne Bennett will their theme song be ‘Benny and the Jets’?

Bears & now jets. Perth turning into joke
Let's just see what the Jets are expecting here.

I bet it's a lot less than Norths are demanding.

If Newtown is happy to be very much a minor party/passive party in this (so long as they get a feeder-deal that cements their NSW Cup future) then it might bring a positive dimension to a Perth club.

We may not be looking at a joint venture in the traditional "equal partners" model that the NRL has seen, with all the pitfalls that's had.

I thought suburban Sydney clubs brought nothing & Perth is a future gold mine for the game?!

That arrangement would be the prefect result for both parties. I don't think Newtown are clinging onto a fantasy that they will make it back into the NRL.
