Exactly. The logo/branding issue is seriously overestimated. The biggest thing is the games in Sydney part. No home games in Sydney for a WA side.

The whole point of a Western Australian side or a Brisbane side or wherever is to target the area that the side it is meant to represent.
I agree with you about the no Perth home games in Sydney part. However, it's going to take a few years for WA to start pumping out top tier players, so having some kind of East Coast feeder link like the Storm has had is important. Does that mean you have to adopt the feeder team's brand? No. But without a permanent arrangement the feeder can switch teams at any time. I doubt though that Newtown is going to be able to offer the feeder needs that Perth requires. The Bears could. A number of Queensland cup teams could. If the WA government is actively approaching these clubs, I suspect that their survey results have shown that adopting an East Coast club brand will have minimal impact on local support. Like I said elsewhere too, I suspect that Perth is going the Dolphins route to make the NRL board more comfortable expanding into an AFL heartland by taking on an existing Rugby League club identity.

I agree.

I don’t have a problem with them linking up with QLD/NSW Cup for feeder arrangements. The same would happen for any side that comes in.

Logo/history. Sure, to a degree. I don’t think a logo per se is a big thing. How the club is set up is way more important.

I just don’t think that a new club representing a new area should be playing home games in another area because it will have the stench of a club using Perth or wherever else as a means to an end. The optics of it just don’t look good.

If a club wants to set up an arrangement to play one of their home games at NSO or Henson Park or wherever than that’s a little different.

Perth will never produce top level players. See Melbourne

yeah and you've taken it out of context. I was making the same point that you were. PR said "Jets" have nothing to do with Perth. I questioned what Bear or Pirate has to do with Perth since they are the other possible mascots being talked about.

Not much, though wa did have a Pirate and a buccaneer. Bit like dolphins for me though, it’s an nfl brand and that’s what people think of when they hear the name, not a rugby league club.

Again having an east coast feeder club makes total sense. Adopting the brand of an east coast club, giving over ownership and sharing home games makes no sense. Be it Bears or especially jets, seeing as jets don’t have jnrs, fans or money and have been nothing more than a feeder club to other sydney clubs for 40 years.

This is an even worse idea than the Bears. People who were in their 40s when the Jets were kicked out are now in their 80s. Their old fan base who were around to see them play in first grade and were old enough to care about them being kicked out of the comp will all be gone in a few decades.

Fair enough if all this link ends up being is Perth using Newtown as a feeder club, but the idea of taking on their identity and playing home games in Sydney is just odd.

Agree. Just a feeder club. Perth should host all home games regardless of which club it aligns with. Id prefer they were 100% stand alone.
