4000 and you think png only has 10k

borrowed ausikick methodolgy

great game today did you watch it
Did you really think wa only had 200 players? You don’t follow rugby league very closely do you?

I have no idea how many png has, do you?nthere is no stats anywhere I can find, mind you the dodgy govt is hiding the real population so we shouldn’t be surprised There’s no evidence.

What I do know for a fact is despite millions of $’s investment difference and more players, WA has still produced more nrl players in last decade than png.

no I’ll watch it tomorrow when not much on. Did they beat Perths 45k crowd?

you didnt answer, did you really think WA only had 200 players?
In terms of measuring against nsw and qld probably less tbh

You really don’t follow the game much then Lol! I know they say east coasters are ignorant when it comes to the west but that’s some other Level.
When you get an nrl team I’ll show more interest

if you aren’t in the nrl you aren’t relevant imo

How does that work? I don’t see opposing teams giving up their home games to play at the opposition’s home ground.
If they were in Dunedin/Napier/Palmerston North maybe but it’s still not something you could guarantee as it’s up to the other clubs.
The NRL controls the draw, not the clubs. Just like when they introduced Magic Round they can adjust home ground allocations so that 4 games that would have been played in Sydney are instead played in New Zealand. Sydney-based NRL clubs already play 16 to 18 games in Sydney each season. They're already at a major advantage. Losing 4 of those will barely make a blip, particularly for clubs if they share home grounds.

There would be more registered players in Brisbane than New Zealand, PNG and Western Australia combined. Despite this, we've got people on here demanding we limit Brisbane to just two teams so we can expand into Adelaide and Perth.

We had just 35k turn up to Stadium Australia to watch the Panthers vs Storm preliminary final. Broncos averaged more than that at Lang Park during the regular season.

There's only one legitimate option for the 18th licence. Brisbane Tigers. Its home games will average 20-35k. It'll generate more revenue from football operations than all clubs bar the Broncos. Most of its juniors will be local.

Perth will rely on SEQ for players and might struggle to generate enough revenue from football operations to tread water. The Force and Glory struggle, despite RU and soccer having a much larger profile than RL in Perth.

No one knows where to put a second NZ team.

PNG will rely on government assistance and never draw a star recruit.

The game doesn’t need another brisbane club. Next.
In what world does the NRL not need another Brisbane team?

This year's season attendance was 19k. That's the highest in its history. Without the Dolphins there's no way the attendance would have been so high.

The ratings generated by the Dolphins added commercial value to the game and have Ch9 wanting a third Brisbane team.

The NRL average attendance will jump beyond 20k with the Brisbane Tigers playing 12 games at Lang Park.

The WARL only has 4,000 registered players.

Perth is two hours behind the east coast. That means Ch9 and Foxtel will not draw good ratings in Perth for a Thursday or Friday night game that kicks off at 5.45pm AWST.

A Perth team isn't going to draw 20k fans to its games.

The Brisbane Tigers will draw somewhere between 20-35k to their 12 games at Lang Park.

A Perth-based team cannot compete with Brisbane 3.

For those wondering Rugby League has a huge participation rate in PNG. It’s part of the school curriculum across the country. Latest info is that there are 10000 senior players at a minimum across the country and numbers across all ages are booming. Sorry to disappoint the miserable turd from Perth but facts are facts.
It's hard for people to understand just how engrained Rugby League is in PNG culture. It isn't just A sport. It is THE sport. Every little village has multiple teams. 10,000 players might be in the formalised competitions but I'd estimate that the vast majority of PNG males are playing at least a couple of games of rugby league each year in some form or another. Honestly, with that size potential player pool, if you put money into talent identification and training, you can get a full squad that can beat the best in the NRL.

Anybody wanting a reason for a PNG team just watch the PMs X111 game. Full Stadium. 4PM game EST. Played in a country where League is the number one game and is on the school curriculum in every school. I’m not saying they get the next franchise but there are compelling reasons for a club there by 2030. Rugby league can be an agent for change there. While our main competitor fights suburb by suburb (which is all it can do) we can become the preeminent code in the region with a top flight comp with three countries participating in it. That’ll drag in the sponsors, tv dollars and elite athletes.

Just remember that only about 1,000,000 people in PNG have a TV in their house. A lot of villages can't even get signals because of the mountains. That said when people watch Origin etc there's usually a 30+ people around the one set. I've seen it firsthand.

The city is covered with the two clubs it has. it doesn’t need another one. And the nrl certainly doesn’t. That’s not to say another one couldn’t survive and be a sustainable club in same way there’s nine clubs in Sydney but it’s not needed.
We need to grow the game, we need new markets, new fans, new sponsors new audiences. The game has spent too long consolidating, time to expand.
