18th club, whose next?

Their jnr handbook has registrations nearer 800.
And it’s about catchment region. A perth nrl club will have the pick of every jnr from every club in wa. Redcliffe have their jnr region they focus on. Do you understand how catchment regions work in rugby league?

The Dolphins NRL club will continue this legacy into the future with an even wider focus on our footprint that extends from Brisbane to the Moreton Bay and Brisbane northern corridor, to the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay and Central Queensland regions.

Some of these areas of Queensland have been previously starved of the presence of an NRL team, and the Dolphins are already making successful inroads to plug this gap.

The Dolphins employ full-time staff to conduct activity in these regions to promote junior participation through both clubs and schools.

Well Sunshine Coast is feeding Storm so you take that one out.

Just like your death riding perth despite supposedly being in Favour? Lol
I’m under no illusions the challenges a perth club will face, and I also recognise if done well the enormous benefits to the nrl long term. I’ll argue against east coast ignorance every day. Most have zero idea about WA or rugby league here,

as for death riding others, just pointing out the obvious challenges in other bids.
im an expansionist, your a consolidationalist. you want yet another eats coast club, I’d be happy to see perth, nz2, png or even Adelaide ahead of yet another nsw or qlnd club. But I’m the one who doesn’t want expansion other than perth? Youre funny,

Here's what Cam Smith said about. Perth team:

Melbourne great Cameron Smith believes there's enough "thirst" for Perth to have an NRL franchise of their own, but says it would only thrive if the team enjoys success from the outset.

It's pretty much what I say, hey?

Good luck finding the money to replicate the Melbourne Storm model.

You don't want a second NZ club. Nor do you want one from PNG. It pissed you off so when when the Dolphins came in you heaped shit on them for years.

Doesn't mean the Dolphins don't have staff on the ground scouting talent at junior RL games on the Sunshine Coast. They're just not affiliated with the Sunshine Coast Falcons.

That's what a Perth-based team will be up against. Talent scouts from the cashed up clubs looking over every junior competition in Queensland and NSW. It's why I've been saying a Perth-based club will need to generate more than $10m from football operations to hire the best recruitment staff in the game. It's what the Storm did with News Ltd's money. Perth will need to spot them and sign them up before other clubs beat them to it.

Phil Gould, Cam Smith, Perth glory, Perth heat, all evidence that brisbanee3 is the only option. You make a compelling case.

You must spend hours googling this stuff and all you get is laughs.

You're kidding yourself if you think a Perth-based team will have an operational budget matching the Broncos or Cowboys.

Has Twiggy Forrest's money brought success to the Force?

Surely he'd be able to buy up every talented rugby union junior from the east coast and buy the best coaches imaginable, right?

So why haven't the Force ever been successful on the field?

Lack of onfield success led to their attendances nosediving and being cut from Super Rugby.

But it will all be different for a Perth-based team that's led by Peter Cummins, yeah?

The same Peter Cummins who was with the Western Reds. The same Western Reds that needed News Ltd to bail them out of debt in 1995.

You don't know shit and live in a fantasy world.

Please stop trying to talk up juniors.
Karratha?
Kalgoorlie?
Port Headland?
Broome?
These are in some instances 2 full days drive from Perth with mostly expat communities that if they 1 day in a pure miracle produce 1 player that makes a 30 man roster... its just as likely that they're originally from Cronulla.. seriously.

Let's not forget that those juniors even around Perth within a decent catchment for scouts to be looking, recruiting and developing are also EXPATS! That why they are playing league! And not AFL like all the other born and bred West Australians.

I've lived in Perth, Karratha, Geraldton, Port Headland and Kalgoorlie.
And those Rugby league communities are expats.

So are a recruiting agent for Perth your driving 7 hours to Kalgoorlie, 6 hours to Albany,, another 6 to Bunbury, 2 to Perth, 4 to Geraldton, another 10 to Karratha, another 4 to Headland then 6 to Broome..... then 24 hours back to Perth...
That'll take about 2 months to look at kids ( maybe 2 or 3)that once identified will be expats from Cronulla that didn't make the cut there.
THIS IS LITERALLY YOUR JUNIORS.

That only one of your bs arguments.
All of which have been debunked time and time again.

I'd love to see a Perth team! I really would but enough of the bull shit

Perth will double its participation rate in 3 years. The proof is already there in the inclusion of the Reds in the 90s.

That's significant growth for the game that the NRL can leverage off for improved Federal and State funding.

The broadcasters have already advised the State Government lead group that attended the Magic Round this year that Perth is their preference.

If the NRL sits down with the State Government with a League friendly premier to assure ground upgrades to NIB, a home / center of excellence and some form of annual funding for the team it really is a no brainer.

The broadcasters... like Sky ?

It's all funding this ,funding that, support from here and there . Invest!

One things abundantly clear.

It's a cost to the NRL!
It's a cost to the taxpayer!
It's a cost to the families that have to relocate!
It will drain money.
It will drain resources.
It will drain the talent pool! Not just players! Coaches, trainers, conditioners, nutritionist and administrators.

Perth team will cost everything and the only thing we have as a possible return is perhaps ( definitely not certainly) it will become self sustainable in 30 years... not profitable, not giving us surplus players but purely one day maybe in the future it won't be draining hundreds of millions of dollars and taking thousands of people out of our current systems.

I want a Perth team but this is what it is.
Not some f**king fairy tale.

The broadcasters have already advised the State Government lead group that attended the Magic Round this year that Perth is their preference.

That's not what Head of Strategy WWOS Simon Fordham said at Magic Round:

For Fordham, making the most of this momentum looks like bringing more games to the region – and potentially another team.

Fordham: “We’re really committed to working with the NRL in growing the competition, and Queensland is a big part of that. We think there’s room for another team here in Queensland, and the Dolphins have been the perfect example.

“The more games we can get played featuring Queensland teams in Southeast Queensland, the better. The engagement in rugby league here is just next level, and the energy of the crowds has a material impact on the quality of the broadcasts that we make. It helps create atmosphere, it makes the commentary team rise, it makes the production team rise.”

Adding a team to Perth would add complications to the draw. AWST is four hours behind NZST. From a broadcaster's perspective it would offer nothing but hassle without any return.

The value of the 4pm AWST game is overstated. The AFL only held nine games in this time slot in 2023.

All AFL games are broadcast into Perth on Ch7. That's what a Perth-based NRL team is up against. The only way to watch every game of a Perth-based NRL team will be via Kayo or Foxtel. I cannot see many people in Perth subscribing just to see an NRL team. If they're rugby league fans then they'll already have Kayo or Foxtel. Well, that's what @Perth Red tells us when @Pippen94 points out the poor ratings in Perth for Ch9.

The only Rugby league fans in Perth are expats.. which already follow a team. That community is large- exactly 43,000 that attended the double header.. that's all of them. Most went for the event being the only chance to watch rl for some time, some may have followed one of the teams but the fact they moved away from NRL states means that they didn't think they'd miss out on much ( not BIG fans) and would probably follow a Perth team if it was successful and may attended games but the real numbers that matter is tv and most of those life you said are already watching.

AFL people don't come over to League.
We have over a hundred years of attempts and it simply doesn't happen! The Storm have been successful for nearly 30 years! Have a world class stadium! And I could bet most of their followers are expats from NZ the islands, NSW and QUEENSLAND.
That's a city of 5 million!
Brand new stadium!
Some of the best players ever!
Most successful team for the last 30 years!
How many AFL fans did they convert?
Out of 5 million? 2? 3 thousands?
IT DOESN'T HAPPEN.

Perth will rely on expats.
That number is to the tune of around 50k
5 hour flight for 50k ... that are already watching the game.

Maybe after 30 years we'll convert 2000 people to league if they're winning...
How many millions are we spending for a couple of thousand fans? 200 million? 300 ?
Jesus.

The irony about the 43k crowd at Perth Stadium is they paid to see the team @Perth Red has been death riding for years.

Seriously your posts are full of gross exaggerations.

There are a high percentage of Perth born players in our seniors.

Where do you get 2,000 people in 30 years from? We went from 5,000 to 10,000 registered players back in 90s ... not fans, players. That is what ACTUALLY happened.
