You've just done what I've accused you of doing. Arguing that the clubs are solvent on revenue from football operations, then claiming they need pokies.

The answer to your question is obvious. They're all looking to "thrive" rather than "survive". It's not cheap to fund the facilities and support staff that's required to maximise player performance and development.

A Perth-based team will need to "thrive" like the Storm to make a dent in the Western Australian market. The Storm overspent to "thrive" and needed to be bailed out by News Ltd and ARLC.

How will a Perth-based team generate the extra money it needs to "thrive"?
Major rich city with Corporates, fans, rich owners and a supportive mega rich state govt.

and If it doesn’t stack up then We shouldn’t be allowed in. Neither you nor I know what the business case for perth is, nrl will. Either it stacks up or it doesn’t. Time will tell

Notice how he put two fumbleball cities that couldn't care less about RL above a country that does?

If he believed half the shit he says then he would be advocating for the RFL to do away with promotion and relegation and bring in franchises from Dublin, Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh.
45k in perth would suggest someone cares lol

If there was a city like perth knocking on the door of SL like perth is then I’d be the strongest advocate for them Entering. But there is t, not even close.

I hope we go back to licensing inSL , secures the future of my club and gives any club an opportunity to build a case for future admission, in theory!

20k turned up to watch an ice hockey match between America and Canada in Sydney. Only a delusional idiot would suggest there's 20k ice hockey fans in Sydney.

The Sydney club that competes in the AIHL would be lucky to draw 200 fans to a game.

As a one off event sure, but does ice hockey have a 75 year history, or 26 clubs in Sydney? Does it have multi millionaires wanting to run a club there? Does it have 4000 people playing the game there? Has it got 7 ice hockey jnrs playing internationals this year? Can it match attendances that look like this? Nah? Didnt think so!

Top 10 Record RL attendances in Perth
2019 SOO 59,721 (sold out)
2022 SOO 59,358 (sold out)
2023 Nrl Double header 45,814
2018 Nrl Double header 38,824
1995 Western Reds 24,932
2020 NRL nines 24,867
1995 Western Reds 20,985
2016 Kangaroos v Kiwis 20,283 (sold out)
2015 NRL game 20,272 (sold out)

another terrible comparison since the AIHL has virtually no exposure, isn't televised and is semi-pro, but good try.

On the one hand you discount the ice hockey game in Sydney as a "one off event".

On the other you cite a handful of "one off" NRL and Origin games that occurred in Perth to argue that the city has a large RL community.

How come you never cite the attendances for the Western Reds during their three year history?

Their attendance record is the closest thing we have to knowing what a Perth-based NRL team can generate.

What did the Reds average over their three year history?

The club pulled this average when the Dockers were in their infancy and had no competition from the Force. RL in Perth was at its highest peak during this period with 10k players. It's now down to 4k.

My point is anything can pull a crowd if it's a one-off event.

But let's fact check what you said.

AIHL was televised on Kayo Freebies in 2022.

How do you explain Super Rugby pulling bigger crowds than NRL 20 years ago?

All games were broadcast exclusively on Foxtel. Using your logic it shouldn't have drawn a crowd!

How do you explain the BRL and NSWRL drawing a crowd when they were semi-professional?

Rugby union was amateur until the mid-1990s. It didn't stop their competitions from drawing a crowd.

How many RL games are broadcast on the main channel in Perth?

It's an important question to ask since you're using lack of exposure to justify low crowds.

The game is broadcast on 9Gem in Perth because a rerun of a 1980s movie on the main channel draws better ratings.

How many people turn up to watch the semi-pro WARL games?

If there's as much support for rugby league in Perth as @Bukowski claims -- he reckons the game has "enormous" levels of support in Perth -- then WARL games would draw bigger crowds than the Queensland Cup and NSW Cup.

@Perth Red reckons there's 42k RL fans in Perth.

How many of them attend WARL games?

The Australian Ice Hockey Federation dates back to 1923. That makes it 25 years older than the WARL.

There's 3k ice hockey players in Australia.

Has it got 7 ice hockey jnrs playing internationals this year?

Twenty players from the AIHL represented Australia in the IIHF World Championships Division II.

Can it match attendances that look like this?

Yes!

The USA vs Canada series sold out venues around the country.

A recent exhibition series between Canadian and American professional players sold out mid-sized to large venues, including a 20,000-spectator turnout in Sydney.

Using your logic the next NHL team should be from Australia!

1995 again? Perths population has almost doubled since then. 1996 and 1997 were also tumultuous years for League and pushed a lot of people away, many Sydney teams were getting sub 10k crowds.

yeah but NHL is globally famous competition, the biggest ice hockey league in the world. AIHL is so small and unknown most people in Australia wouldn't even know its exists. If You think the NRL has a similar profile to the AIHL in Perth then you are a complete jackass.

Again 25 years ago when the game was in turmoil and fans were abandoning the game. Ask Wb lol

but for the record reds never, I repeat never, had the worse crowd avg in any of those years and were ahead of some so called heartland clubs even when crowds dropped off.
